.224 best barrel for a 222 Rem build ?

I am going to build a Rem 222 and thinking of who may have the best .224 barrels in 14 twist. Any of you serious benchresters please chime in. I have been thinking of Hart, Schneider, Bartlein, or Krieger. I know even the best can put out a bad barrel from time to time and my question is asking for opinions. Any others that I may have left out, and even this is not a 6mm barrel , but I know someone has had great experience with a .224 barrels. I am not a competition shooter, but only want the most accurate barrel that I can purchase for this project.

Also, any good place to purchase.

Thanks in advance to any input.

For best results use a 1 in 12 twist. per RR.

25+ years with Krieger barrels for my 223 ackleys. 1 in 12 for 40 grain Vmax. Never found a reason to change either one.

^^^^
You may lose a whopping 13 fps w a 12tw, but, you won't take a chance on not stabilizing the nice BCd 53s.
If pure br work, yeah 13, 13.5 or 14. Fwiw

My choice for a 223 build was a 12 inch twist Krieger. I purchased it from Krieger. Received it today.

I like the Krieger, Hart, Lilja, Brux and Bartlein. I needed a couple of tubes for a project I'm working on too and recently ordered two from Krieger's online store. In stock and had them in a week. If they were out - I'd not have hesitated to buy from the others. While this advice is unsolicited - I'd go with a faster twist unless you NEVER plan on shooting anything over 50 grains and never be able to shoot lead-free bullets -

Several of those mentioned will do this. I normally use Krieger, but went with a Bartlein 12T with a bugnut from Southern Precision Rifles. In stock and save you months waiting.

Hi jepp2,

what brand is the Picatinny rail in your picture? How do you like it?

Apologies for the off topic question.

Kindest regards,

M

My .222 yields excellent accuracy with it's 24" Criterion 1:12 SS barrel & barrel nut.
It particularly loves 55 gr Berger FB target bullets over N133.

That is amazing accuracy, makes you wonder why spend the money on a full build. Great shooting for sure.

The barrel, action and stock were about $1500. Bedded in Devcon.
It shoots way better than I would've expected from a homemade gun.
This and two other builds showed me Shilen barrels with a barrel nut shoot very small.

Go to bugholes.com and take your choice. I bought a #5 12 twist Brux from them last fall and was so impressed with it that I bought the other 3 they had in stock. You can't go wrong with any of the well known brands, just depends on exactly what you want and how long you are willing to wait for it.

PacNor prefit in 12 twist is my best experience. Many PacNor barrels, and every one a benchrest good one.
Best of all, they are back in business.
