Broughton Barrels closed !!!

I didn't cry but was extremely disappointed when Leupold dropped their 1" diameter, excellent VX II scopes, specifically the 4 x 12 and 6 x 18 with adjustable objectives, clear glass, simple duplex reticles and reasonably priced.

I wasn't aware, don't keep up with Leupold's lineup. I should have some older Vari-X II scopes, 4-12x AO duplex, need to look through my storage because I sold a few. These are better IMO than the later VX II but anyway let me know if you're interested.

I heard Broughton barrels closed their doors down.......retired. I love those barrels, my favorite. Maybe this is old news but that is what I just heard for the first time. I really am kind of devastated as I have been thinking the last week or so about ordering 3 or 4 barrels.

It looks like the original company was owned by Bruce Broughton in Big Spring, Tx

Bruce may have been a first name (legal name) but Harold Broughton was the previous owner.

After doing a little research, I think that Bruce was the son that took over after Harold passed on or retired and eventually liquidated the business in Big Spring.

Good barrels, but rough as driving across a cornfield on the exterior. Take a lot of unnecessary labor to finish one. LDS

I’m sorry to hear Tim North is retiring. He was easy to work with, paid attention to detail and turned out a fine barrel.

Just thought I would give a little update. Tim North’s health is improving quite well. The new owners are building a new shop set to be completed by January. Néw owners also bought a new drilling machine for the barrels. Tim should be traveling down in the February time frame to show the process to the new owners. I am pretty confident with the new owners producing some great barrels. They are a current machine shop with many CNC lathes along with years of experience.
