Galled barrel in action

never cease. One drop can cover a whole shop, at least my shop.
Never Seeze. Been there dun that.
A old guy told me to put a dissimilemer(sp) material between two surfaces.
Copper,Teflon ,aluminum based between s/s.
Not nickle on s/s
Just my 2 cents.

That is interesting as all anti-seize manufacturers specifically recommend a nickel based anti-seize for stainless steel applications.
Having worked with stainless fittings for years the preferred anti-seize was always nickel based. I have also used nickel impregnated ptfe tape on 316 fittings. That stuff is gall-o-matic without the right anti-seize or tape.

Many curses have been laid at folks who rattled up 316 fasteners with an impact driver without AS and cold welded it. Ready for for the next poor soul who has the now unpleasant task of disassembly.

"Dont forget Prussian blue for spread ability"

Don't forget Moly powder for coating bullets or fine ground graphite powder.

I've worked in a power plant for 38 years. I don't know why we have never used Molykote. It looks like a good product. Maybe our chemistry dept didn't like the Cl content or something like that. We use nickel anti-seize on all our high temp threaded fasteners in the non-nuclear side of the plant. That is what I use for barrels and I've never had a problem with it. I've learned not to get it on me. --Jerry

Same for nuke Navy ships. Nickel for the non-nukes stuff and graphite was the only thing close to anti-seize we could use on the nuke side.

Yep, and the graphite is just this side of useless. But it was the only thing that met the strict chemistry requirements. Because it is used in the "nuclear" plant, some people interpret that as it is better, which is the opposite of the truth.

Jim, we're not rushing you but this has become like a good mini-series on TV - everyone's tuning in to see what happens next :)

Good luck!
