Most effective carbon solvent ?

Whats the best you have used? RL26 in my .270 is accurate, fast and dirty...thanks

My experience, the most 'effective' is not so much the solvent, rather the timing - being able to clean the bore soon after shooting. Again, my experience is the longer the carbon is left in the bore the more difficult it is to remove. I try not to leave overnight and then clean the next day, or later, it just gets harder. I have used most of the reputable brands and mostly these do a good job. Soaking helps, but getting to the carbon whilst the barrel is still warm from shooting or within an hour or two thereafter works the best for me. I do use a bronze brush as part of my cleaning regime and I check by borescope.

If I let my FTR barrels go for 3 days in a match, they need a soak and an aggressive clean to get the carbon out. I get really black streaks of carbon that are hard to move. Varget and H4895 mainly.

I usually use Hoppes Elite or Weapons Shield. However, 1st couple times I cleaned the carbon off my Tavor 7's gas piston, after soaking 10-15 minutes, I still had to scrub a fair amount with a wire brush. After the last outing with the rifle, I noticed a bottle of Remington Brite Bore I've been sitting on for many years and never even opened. Let the parts soak about 10 minutes & crap just wiped off! I was surprised. 20200810_222823.jpg

Bortec Carbon Remover and lots of patches. The sooner after firing the better. If that doesn't get it a patch over a brush, Flitz, and work up a sweat.
