168 VLD H set close of far off ?

I haven't quite accepted the big jump setting for a VLD but its said its so, Where is best in the 300 win mag ?

We are in the midst of a bullet seating test of said bullet in a 300 H&H. Rem M721 magazine length dictates at least 120 thou off'n the lands. Best group was 155 thou off the lands, 4 shots into 0.621 inches at 100 yds.

Depends entirely upon your rifle!
My Savages like it 0.005-0.010" off the lands.
My Ruger in 280 Rem likes them 0.060" off.

168 vldh in the 300winmag ?
I used 190vldh in my 300winmag and though that was a light bullet.

I tested the 190's at different lengths and it didn't matter much because it was a hunting rifle and not benchrest.

Although it is not a VLD bullet I’m shooting the 185 juggernaut from burger out of my 300 win Mag the best seating depth for me was .010 jump

I see that they are now jump tolerant.

Not good if they're jammed into the rifling. But 0.020" in the lands doesn't mean they're jammed.

That's user error, the animal deserves the most accurate shot possible imo. I will shoot the most accurate load period. If I screw up and stick a bullet the supermarket is in my future.

I have plenty barrels where I load 0.020" in the lands but the bullets don't Jam, and I can extract a live round with out any resistance,.. like a round with the bullet jumping.

Now if I was to load them farther into the lands, I'm sure at some point they'd be hard to extract and could pull the bullet out of the case.

"In the lands" and "Jammed in the lands" is not exactly the same thing and will vary depending on chamber and bullet.

It's pretty simple really , once you start loading your own you will understand quickly . A quick session using the "stripped bolt" method will teach you all you need to know.

Most people when they find their lands it is what is called touch it just starts to feel resistance depending on your chamber throat etc. that can vary quite a bit from an actual jam where it will go no further and starts to compress the bullet into the cartridge it is at that point you will pull a bullet when trying to extract an unfired round

.020 is my goto but that said every rifle is it's own beast and should be treated as such!
