I'm getting my first AR

I haven’t seen any one suggest an HK. They have a good rep. I was looking at one but they were a bit pricey. I bought the Rock River instead.

If one decides to buy an HK, be aware that they use some proprietary parts, in addition to being extremely expensive (for what they are). You may not be able to use your aftermarket parts with your HK.

I ordered a Wilson combat urban super sniper 2 weeks ago. Had to be built. 5-8 week time frame. Not in to this platform much eather but i like it. Will see how it turns out.

All depends what you want as stated pistons are proprietary, I like DI. Since you didn't mention price BCM, Daniel Defense, Larue, LMT and LWRC to name a few, hard to go wrong with any of these. If they are available.

never understood the worship of cops by the right being that is who will arrest you for fighting back when attacked. they arrested a guy in Minn for murder who shot a looter burning his store. they arrested man and woman who painted over gigantic BLM mural painted on the street for a hate crime. the list is endless. after 26 cities burned while cops stood there the govt just did a big study and said if you can believe it White terrorists are the main problem LE faces. they aint on your side

Never said they were.

Seriously it went from ARs for defense to better not use it or your liberal leaders will get you, to you better not worship cops, to defending cops. Threads man, threads. Lol
I’m hoping someone that owns an HK version will report on it’s function and reliability. The HK pistols I’ve handled were well made but I’ve never handled their AR.
Let’s get back on track.;)

I’ve never personally used one, but the Australians and Kiwis I worked with enjoyed them as their squad designated marksman rifle. I got to play with them but never shot one. Looked extremely well built. They had the price tag to follow.

18 yrs ago, bought an AR 15 and 2 ar10, from armalite. Still shooting them, have had no trouble with any of them. They shot 1 moa consistently. Better weapon than the m16a1 I carried in 1973. Just no fun switch, but saves a little ammo and barrels that way. Red.

I think in buying this class of rifle one has to consider long-term parts availability. You can find an AR extractor anywhere. Not so for the same HK part. You may find yourself in the same boat with the guy who's looking for an extractor for his Borchardt.

Mob mentality that is effecting some makes me see that my shotguns, pistols & bolt actions isn't gonna work against 10, 25 or 50 that decide to loot homes in my neighborhood.

You would be surprised what a good 12 gauge with double OO buck will do and how many it will take out, with each round fired.

Hey Josh,

General thoughts on Piston is only worth considering if you plan to run suppressed majority of time. The major downside to any piston is that there is no milspec so no standardized/interchangeable parts. Each one is proprietary and sourcing replacement parts may not be easy later so might consider buying the spare parts upfront. With the HK piston, you at least a large established manufacturer so less risk of sourcing parts in near term compared to the piston kits from smaller specialty shop.

I looked at piston and decided to stick with standard AR using adjustable gas block to limit/reduce amount of excess gas and dirt from suppressed. Gun will out live me, but I like knowing that I can always find parts in should political/regulatory environment change. I also don't like concept of proprietary parts, especially magazines which is just a marketing scheme to gin up more money. Not that I ever expect this, but if SHTF you'll have to either drop your gun when its empty and pick up someone else's that use PMags or find a safe place to hide while stripping rounds off a PMag to load into your one-off HK or Sig specialty magazines.

Yes... This is the Achilles Heel of my 1911...8-10 dead bad guys and then I'm stuck picking up someone's Glock.
