Thanks everyone. Guess it’s time to find a shat marker and add to my shooting.
I’ve seen numerous .308’s, and .223’s use ShotMarkers at 1k. Among the .308’s were Palma rifles using 155’s, and M1As using 185’s. Among the .223’s were 20” AR’s, I’m not certain of the bullet used.
It’s possible that your load won’t work at 1k with a ShotMarker, but there are loads that will. Adapt, and overcome.
I’m considering either the ShotMarker or the Silver Mountain target system. For those who own one or both can you chime in on the pluses and minuses of each system.
The common features of loads that won't make 1250 fps at sea level at 1000 yards are: F-TR loads in .223 and .308 that use bullets less than 90 grains (in .223) and 200 grains (in .308) and meet SAAMI pressure specs.
This might be a concern for recreational shooters, but I don't believe most competitive F/TR shooters are playing within the limits of SAAMI specs. If they were they wouldn't be using .308 Palma brass

I've known a number who made HM at mid range with SAAMI specs. These shooters are competitive at the local level in F/TR.
I thought we were talking about 1,000 yards.
Requiring new loads to shoot 1000 yards is not likely to attract many new shooters to long range. Requiring loads that exceed SAAMI pressure specs for the targets to work may be fine with the better and more experienced shooters, but it is a stupid move if the goal is to keep growing the sport.
