2020 list of sub $1000 custom actions?

about to start my 2020 build (little late....thanks rona) and am going with a single shot action.

dedicated 250yd rifle to shoot from the bench. prob a 6br.

considering getting a single shot 700 action...but figure once all the truing is done, i'll be close/at custom action price.

So...who all makes a sub $1000 action these days? currently looking at a PTG B12 action with a full size m16 extractor

How about Borden, Pierce, Defiance? There's the PTG trued actions which sell for a couple hundred less. I've heard good things about Borden, Pierce and Defiance. Haven't heard anything about the PTG's.

and the ptg action takes bases that are supposed to be as rare as hens teeth

I also just looked at ragged hole barrels. I have had 2 defiance actions and loved both. if the tenacity will work for you(bolt, port, eject placement) for 825 its a steal!!! thats 175 off kelbly, thats over 1/2 of a premium barrel or a jewell trigger. id DEFINITLY look into it if it will work for you.

Sub $1K actions is really not where we want the industry heading. Many out there need similar work as your Remington. In fact the new production Remington action bodies are quite good, straighter than many budget customs.

A friend of mine, who is a member here (not going to call his name), always called them “action kits” back in the day. We was having to work on them 20yrs ago and im sure they were getting worked on long before that.
