Can we chat about 1911s?

Im basically 100% go on putting money towards an accuracy x 1911. They seem to be excactly what I'm after, and my goodness you cannot beat their customer service. Any of you guys dabble in higher end precision 1911s?

The les baer was my second choice, but for my style of shooting I decided with an accuracy x. Im sure a monolith heavy will wind up in my grubby mitts someday.

I love pre-world war ll 1911's. Their bluing and craftsmanshipis awesome. I have 3 brands and about every configuration, but the alloy frame Commander is my favorite.

I think the 38 super is a great round that was hurt by the semi-rim accuracy issues initially. I love the safety set up too. I wish I had a custom, but the best I have is one tuned years ago by the armorer at a security company for a nuclear plant. No other pistol fits my hand like a 1911. I love them for sure.

Man thats too cool. I thought about a les baer and a ww2 or ww1 1911 as an "investment" piece (id be happy if it beat inflation as an investment) but I have so much to learn about them, I shelved the idea for now.

If you don't own a 1911 then get one. A non high end 1911 will educate you about just what a high end should be. Besides cosmetics and price the main differences will likely be accuracy and reliability.

While this forum is loaded with knowledgeable members, there is another site that is dedicated to the 1911. Just another source for information.

No denying that Accuracy X has a great reputation. You might also consider a look at the Bullseye Forum (www.bullseyeforum.net). No one knows more about accurate and reliable 1911s (and ammunition, and fundamentals) than those folks. The current theme there is buy a Springfield RO and send it to a good pistol smith. Much cheaper than most ready-made "custom" pistols and much more precise.
Have fun on your journey!

@Papa Charlie
Already a member there, lol, but thanks for the tip.

@watercam
Thought about doing that, but I only dabble in bullseye, my first love is long distance pistol shooting. So accuracy x is a natural fit. Plus where most builders didnt take me serious, because im a nobody, steve made me feel like I was already part of the family.

I have a bunch of 1911s, all target type. My AMT Long Slide Hard Baller, is nice, but I am not a big fan of its balance. The rest are all Series 70 Gold Cup Nation Match versions. Original 1970s .45 in Blue, a Trophy Model S/S in 9mm, a Talon Trophy 1 of 600 S/S in .45 ACP and a Trophy Lite in .38 Super.

I was surprised thought that my non-1911, Smith and Wesson 4506 is just as accurate as any of these in both .45 and .45 Super.

I have some higher end nighthawks and wilsons but if i was to get even more serious and wanted to take the next step id get a cabot. If you want to get the best one custom built get troy harp to build it.

Trashy, "You have chosen, wisely". Yes they are expensive. Buy once-cry once. They make one of the finest you can buy.
I've had the pleasure of visiting (and scarfing down lots of freshly baked cookies) with Steve & co at Camp Perry.

I assume you've already watched his video's, but in case you haven't, I've got his link below. Good stuff.

Depending on your budget, there are many levels of custom 1911s. I EDC a Wilson Combat in cold to warm weather, but typically switch to a Sig 365 in summer.
My WC is old enough that the "Nite Eyes" tritium sights are too dim to be useful; time for an upgrade. Also have an 1918 Rem/UMC 1911 that while virtually correct, has been chrome plated at some time in the last 102 years. It is on it's way to FL for stripping and matte blueing.
Keep us posted on your acquisition and shooting progress.

@ stork I sure have watched those videos, the 10mm at 500 yards was basically the one that sold me.

@ratguner I emailed him, and we exchanged thoughts, but he doesnt offer a big option im after. Seems like a top notch guy though.
