I need to replace my spotting scope tripod. It is used right outside my shop back door, so weight is not a consideration. Mostly used for spotting on my range while standing behind shooter. Of course I don't want to break the bank, but looking for something stable.
Thanks in advance!

Go to fbay and search on Bogen Tripod. I bought two, one for spotting scope and one for chronograph. Great tripods and reasonably priced.

The Manfrotto units with tubular powder coated aluminum legs are outstanding. My mother has one over 20yrs old for her birding scope (Leica). It is built for the long haul.

I would second this. Built to taking a beating for sure.

The Surveyors Tripods are the only ones that I have found stable enough for a spotting scope to really work well. I have a lot of Photography tripods and they are fine lowered and on a bench, but fully extended so you can view while standing has not proven positive for the ones that I have. I tried a Surveyors Tripod at Williamsport and I was hooked.

I have a Manfrotto and am very happy with it. Light weight and solid, easy to transport and adjust.A bit pricy but mine is close 20 years old , used hard and I have no complaints.

I have used a surveyor's tripod for 20 years. Works better than any other tripod we ever had with us on the prairie, hunting pd.

Someone else may be able to help you with that question. Mine is a flat top model only because I found a good deal online for the one I use. I'm not sure what the benefit would be for a "dome" model. I have no problems with the flat and I spent the extra couple $ on Flat dark earth rattle can paint ; )
