Who's playing around with a 6.5 Grendel bolt rifle?

I just built one for the hell of it and that tiny round has me intrigued. Uses little powder and guys are killing milk jugs at 1000 yards with rounds under 2500fps. I'm mostly wanting a slow accurate round that's cheaper to load and bust clay birds at 300 yards. Built on a Savage platform with a 26" X-Caliber stainless bull barrel with 1-8 twist set in a MDT Oryx chassis.

Well I have a Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Grendel in an Oryx chassis that I've had for about a year now. It soon will be 6mm Grendel/243LBC when the barrel gets here.

I use IMR 8208 XBR with my heavier bullets 123 gr. and H335 for the 85-90 gr bullets. I run a 20" BHW P3 barrel on the AR and run the same powders and bullets in the Howa Mini Action. Only thing I've shot with AR(nothing with bolt) was a bobcat. DRT. Very light recoil, not much powder usage and pretty dog gone accurate. Haven't stretched them out as I've been playing with other calibers but you WILL enjoy it. I get 2511 FPS out of the AR and still have room to go.

Howa Mini here. Placed my barreled HB action into a B&C stock and I'm very pleased with it.

You want cheap to load? Look at 120sp (any manf) and WC846 ball powder, BLC(2), or CFE223. Even better, add a little time to some 7.62x39 brass and form some to toss away; still sub moa and runs well in AR too.

I have a Howa mini heavy barrel in the factory stock. Bought for my daughter and I to deer hunt with. I cut the LOP to fit her at a finished length of 12.5".

I have a Leupold VX-R 2-7x33 with the German #4 with firedot - which is about as good as it gets for hunting timber in Georgia.

We killed 6 animals with 120 grain Sierra Pro Hunters behind H4895 last year. 2 bucks, 3 coyotes, and 1 hog.

Sent the bolt off for the handle to be threaded - she needs a little more leverage. I had the DIP bottom metal with it - which was nice - but I have recently installed a BDL hinged floorplate made by Jefferson Outdoors. It holds 4 plus 1, and is ideal for my style of hunting.

I'll see if I can find a pic of my rifle.

One of twin Borden BBs we put together but have yet to shoot, but can't wait! Just need the range to get open...ammo loaded and ready to rock.

The 6.5 Grendel is just a fancy name for a 260 Remington. So ask the same question for a 260 Remington. The 260 Remington is a great cartridge out to 1000 yards.

Are you making a joke? They are very very different.

Close, but not really. 6.5 Grendel is just another name for 6.5 PPC, with very slight changes.

Not really slight, in my opinion. The shoulder is way further forward.

Recently bought a Howa Mini barreled action in 6.5 Grendel. Tore the factory barrel off and put on a new custom barrel in 20 PPC. Stock bedding is actually curing right now. Will be pulling it apart in the morning. Should be a deadly little round

I have mine all finished now and will post a pic when I can. Made up some break-in rounds with extras for sighting in the scope. Loaded 123gr Hornady SST's over 30.0gr of CFE223 in Starline brass. Hoping to try her out this weekend...

I bought one of the Howa Mini HB's with the factory stock. It shot OK with 120-123gr ammo. I just replaced the stock with an MDT LSS Chassis, hopefully I'll get it test fired in the next few days. My hoped for load will be a 95gr V-Max in this rifle, but I'm planning on cutting it down to 10-12" and mounting a Creative Arm's "tube" on it. Their suppressors serial numbers are on the core and end-cap, so I can move it from rifle to rifle. Here is the rifle in the factory stock, yes the stock and bottom plastic are available for sale;

10-12”, Howa Mini? How does that stay with parameters of the law, unless it was an undesignated action.

Last I knew any length adding feature to make the 16” mark had to be permanently fixed to the barrel.

The outer tube will be pinned and welded to the shortened barrel. Today, with the MDT stock installed, I had very consistent 5/8" groups with every load tested using 95gr V-max bullets, 28-29gr's of VV N530, in Hornady cases with Federal 205M primers at 100 yards. The barreled action will go in to Creative Arms for the tube install this week. I did not choreograph the loads because when I shorten the barrel, it will have to be reshot. I'm hoping the 28.5gr loads will shoot as well as they did today. No pressure signs and smooth bolt lift at 80 degrees F. The 29's had a bit of bolt lift resistance, but then, so does every factory round tested using 123-130gr stuff. None of the heavier loads would shoot into under an inch at 100 yards in this rifle, before or after the MDT stock.
