And the 956's were slow compared to the later 962's, not to mention the 917's. Cool footage. When there was no chicane
yeah..i know.. and i agree.. back when there was more of an air of real racing.. not saying that it isn't today, but i feel that they were more on the edge back thenAnd the 956's were slow compared to the later 962's, not to mention the 917's. Cool footage.
Did you know Rosie?i used to know Shirl Greer and his son Van.. used to hang out with Van when we were younger!
Ya we both made mistakes. My first car was a 70 Hemi Cuda which I purchased in 1976 for $2700.00. Drove it about 3 times on a repair plate then took it all apart. Sold it half put together on April fools day 1984 for 7K. That was appropriate a fool selling it on April fools day.Owned a 71 Hemi Challenger. 3677.00 OTD. Purchased it from my uncle in 79. Had it thru 1996. Sold it and wish I didn't. All original. Made about 30K selling it but today I could have made 300 sounds like. All original even redline tires. Stored heated in winter, conditioned air in heat of summer. Plum crazy color. Loved that car. Just can't compare it to todays Hemi Challengers other than the old carburated Hemi muscle.
No.. i mainly hung out with Van.. met Shirl a few times... at the shop in Bloomingdale.. (i live in the next section over). I have not talked to Van in years.. i should stop by sometime, but i keep forgetting to..Did you know Rosie?
Pee Wee was a great guy. I remember seeing him, his wife Dot and his 2 sons Bruce and Warren all the time. They were just the nicest bunch of people that I had the pleasure of knowing. Pee Wee was such a gentleman. People just respected the guy where ever he was at.View attachment 1174066 View attachment 1174067 View attachment 1174060 View attachment 1174061 View attachment 1174063 I grew up in a drag racing family . My father toyed with racing with a very limited career . Dad's brother continued forward while the average guy with alot of luck could afford to drag race . Here's a couple pictures of dad's brothers cars . . While I remember him starting in nitro in the late 60's it was a way of life work locally and race on weekends or during the season quit work for the season . While Pee Wee had a very good career in racing during the 60,70s and early 80's we where glad to see him stop . Pee Wee set many track records during his successful career was East coast champion 74,75 and 76 in division 1 in funny car for the North East. Here's just a couple of his cars . He built them wrenched them and drove them . During his career the majority of the car where named the Virginian , I do remember The Black Stang and the Alabamian also that he drove and wrenched.
Yeah I sold mine to buy a 40-acre parcel of ground but turned out they pulled the for sale sign and sold it to a family member. That's my luckYa we both made mistakes.
