Graphic— crow

A friend of my dads had as of 2015 over 120,000 crow kills and he has harvested over 1000 in a day on 2 occasions. Last time i saw him I joked with him that he better hope St. Peter dont great him wearing a PETA tshirt

You'll have to make soup=not enough left for pie!!!!! Had one that looked like that from a .17 Rem with a 25 grain Hornady at around 4000 fps years ago.

Shooting wiley crows on the fly has got to be my favorite with a shotgun. Calling them in while being concealed is a blast, especially when you stand up in your "blind" and they see you ! We used a dead one tied to the feet of a decoyed Great horned owl fixed to a tree behind us. What a blast! You gotta know how to talk to them though...I had a Dakin 12 double that was barrel marked on the full tube as 84 %. Other was Modified of course.

Another cool thing is a crow funeral, when you shoot the lookout and the rest of the flock goes batsh!t.
I've heard they mate for life and have gone back to the area of a recent kill and caught the "mourner " kinda mopping around for an easy kill. Brilliant animals for sure.

Since that one yesterday, I have not even seen a single crow flying around today.?? Kinda of unusual..
Wasn’t “hunting” them just tired of them landing in edge of yard where wife had thrown out some rice.

I saw one shot at a ranch where they flew over the area all the time. One of his buddies hovered over the dead one for a few minutes then took off. We didn’t see a crow fly over that area at the ranch for over a year.

Weird stuff with crows, there were 7-8 lit in some pines outside my shop 4 years ago. I took out the most open one and there has not been a one in that tree or the surrounding trees since, that I have seen.

There used to be a saying in Turkey hunting that goes something like....

"Hit a box caller for a minute or so,then throw it in the truck and never touch it again". Basically,a response to a lot of new callers, over calling, yadayada. The thinking or logic was, eventually their curiosity and instinct will see them in your area.

I've found over the years that when crows first come off the roost in the morning and are making their early morning locating calls..... even if you aren't hunting, hit a loud mouth call, then put it away. Do this every few days, just don't wear it out,hit it for a 1/2 dz times and stop. There will be generations of them always doing fly bys.

This isn't a "hunting" tactic in the short term.... more like,"messin with sasquatch". Drives them crazy that there's always one or two(change up calls to really stir them up) buddy's they can't locate. They are smart,so have to hit their instincts which overrides the brain. Like rattling up a buck,he "knows" better but, can't stand it and "has" to check it out. The trick is knowing when to stop calling.
