Digital scales

New member here from NC. I have a set of Frankfort Arsenal 750 scales that don't seem to be as accurate as they once were. I was wondering if there is anything more accurate for $50 or less. What kind are you guys using in that price range? Thanks.

If the AND FX120 is beyond your means, the AND EJ-123 can be bought for $320. I've been using one for a few years now and like it.

The EJ-123 is accurate to within .02 of a grain (1/200th).

The one caution is to keep it away from florescent lighting and any other transformer or ballast that emits an electronic field. They will cause drifting.

The FX120 is a quality instrument and if you can afford it, buy one. If not, the EJ-123 is a good alternative IMO.

Take a glance at this roundup review. I would say that if your budget is really $50 or less, you are probably better off hunting down estate sales or club sales where you might catch something worth much more at a huge discount. Scales at that price exist, but can be tricky. Get or make some check weights to stay out of trouble.

He doesn't include several that I know about, but this was the most recent video blog that should alert you to features and issues you should consider before making your selection. Good Luck.

I have been surprised how well this scale works. You may have to Tare/zero it every so often, but its a very nice Powder Scale for the money.

Bald Eagle BE1188 - Powder Scale
(00.02gr accuracy)

Currently on sale $49.99

It doesn't come with a Powder Pan, you will have to one.

Another vote against cheap electronic scales. I mostly use mid-level RCBS stuff and have found it to be very repeatable (Chargemaster 1500 and Rangemaster 2000). What kind of reloading are you doing with it? If you're just checking charge weights for a powder measure or shotshell bushing I'd recommend a good beam scale. Most powder measures are only accurate to 0.1 grains on a good day so there's not much point in having a scale accurate to .02. Precision rifle stuff is a different story.

I bought a Charge Master last year when I broke my trusty RCBS 5-10. A year later I finally have figured out how to get somewhat consistent loads. I decided to buy a beam scale and bought a M500. Sent it back. Wouldn't stay zero'd. Then I got the idea to look on fleabay for another 5-10. Whoa! Those and the 10-10 are going for over $100! My good friend and I were talking about it and he said he had one new in the box he had never used. He gave it to me.. Lucky me.

As far as the Frankford Arsenal scale, has mixed reviews. I have a similar one of another brand. But I won't use it for reloading. Get a GOOD beam scale or pop for a GOOD digital.

I don't know what the Op's shooting expectations are but,....

I Started shooting F-Class 600 yds a couple years ago. My first time Shooting it, I shot very well
197-11x's, 199-8x's, 200-10x's. 596-29x's out of 600-60 possible. The 10 score ring is 6" and the X ring is 3", All powder charges were weighted on the BE-1188 Powder Scale, I used a Powder dump and trickled up, while trickling you will have to lift the pan to get an up dated weight, yes not the best but, This scale worked for my shooting expectations.

We all work with different equipment that has to match out shooting budgets. We upgrade as our budgets allow it.

For pretty good reasons, you will get a lot of negative responses about cheap scales. There was a recent thread about this little unit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ESHDGOI/?tag=accuratescom-20 . I found it interesting enough to buy one to play with. I've found it to be surprisingly repeatable with my homemade check weights. Lot's of good info inn that other thread if you can find it.

Here's the thread. I, too, use one of these scales.

Yes, I have a Lee auto drum and auto disk that I use the scales to check.

Is this your primary loading scale? If so, I would pony up a little more, at least for a beam scale. I have three scales, one of them is in the same class as the frankford you mentioned, I only use it to weigh odds and ends, like the stray bullet on the bench, or arrow points.

Do what I did. Buy three different beam scales and three different cheap digital scales and a Chargemaster Lite. Then bang your head against the wall real hard for a couple years. Then buy an FX120 and stop banging. Mike
Funny, but I can join that club too. There is nothing more frustrating than scales you can’t trust!

Welcome to the Form. Beam scale club for me. But am thinking about a cheap digital to play with. The advice on a set of check weights is good stuff.
