Bad luck stories of shooting/reloading/gunsmithing

I know a guy who dropped a match on top of a pile of old powder he said that just as he dropped the match he thought “ I shouldn’t have done this”. It was really bad , he had to have surgery to correct the damage to his face

Yep,

Chargemaster 1500. I bet everyone has forgotten to close the Drain Port at least once. I have a couple of times. After the 2nd time I made a warning label to be placed and left on top of the Powder Hopper Cap.

Red Letters "DRAIN CLOSED - ??"

It's worked for me so far....
Whatever works

there was a groundhog 100yds from my truck hood I shot at him 17 times and he just kept on eating..

OMG!!!! LOL!!!!

I was rock chuck hunting (never got one, still haven't). I had my 308 with a NXS on it and they were 317 yards away and I didn't tighten the screws on my elevation knob and it slipped so I had NO IDEA where I was and had to re-zero my rifle...but that didn't stop me from missing the next 12 shots. :(

My Grandad used to always tell the story of joe webb. Now Joe webb joined my grandad's hunting club back in the early 60's. Back then, in south Alabama, pretty much every club was a dog club and they ran every weekend. They used to CLEAN HOUSE, too. Had a lot of acreage available, and everyone killed multiple deer every year. Webb was there every drive, never missed a hunt, was always put in good spots, and didn't kill his first deer until his 21st year in the club. 21 years, no deer. Still went every weekend though, was about the fellowship, not the killin. But still, got skunked for over 2 decades.

I was thinking about painting the bottom half of the drain ring flourescent orange. Should help to make sure I check it.

I recently posted about my run of bad luck with a 6mm Creedmoor. After that I realized I was not alone in my run of bad luck. I would like to hear some of your stories.

thanks

Had an 03-a3 from cmp . Local "gunsmith" restocked it. Picked it up, bolt would not close. Can you believe this guy began grinding on the LUGS ? you kidding me? We were both ex Marines. Bolt still wouldn't close. He looked into the action, saw a piece of wood chip from carving on the stock, removed it, and then insulted my intelligence by holding the rifle , ( barrel pointing UP,) opened the bolt and it fell open as it should have. Then he says...works ok now ! True story.

And yet...some guy wrote an article in Precision Shooting about how great this guy was because he did the work for a well known local business man. I should havw written him and said... Yeah...I live here in the same town and know Mr. R. W...s !

Yes. Just because they have articles written about them doesn’t mean they are great or nice

Years ago I modified a couple triggers on Savage bolt action rifles. Everything was fine. Nice crisp 1-1/2 lb pull and even pumping the stock hard, it wouldn't slip off the sear. Then I was out one day (I never use a safety) and for some reason I chambered a round, decided not the fire, and put it on safety. A couple minutes later I sighted in on the target and pulled the trigger, nothing. Damn safety. When I slid back the safety lever the rifle discharged even though my finger was not in the trigger guard. OUPS! Something I didn't check. The fix was easy, just readjust the safety set screw. Glad I found the problem without having a major accident.

Furthermore, I had a Win. 88,.284 ( my favorite meat gun) that needed a different height front blade. There is a tool designed specifically for that , ( which he did have). However, this fool did not have it centered on the dovetail and proceeded to turn the knob. What he did was remove material from the dovetail, and had to put a piece of foil in to take up the slop. Talk about a butcher. !

^^^^ Ain't much to like about that Bozo...written up? Yeah, he oughta be "written up". Everyone makes mistakes but grinding bolt lugs by hand, no thought to head space? I think I would put a couple of crossed stocks in his yard and burn them. :/
