i'm curious what is oal for 130's in kiff's reamer 0125 throat. and what is preferred twist to shot 107-130pills. this sounds like a nice caliber for accurate women or youth to shoot. i have a 6.5x55usa this 6.5x47 sounds better and more forgiving.

You use a lot less powder on the 47, and R#26 in the 47 with 140's is awesome...about 100 fps faster than R#17

What kind of speeds are you guys getting with a 140 and R26? tried a experiment awhile back with R 26 and a 147 ELD-M. Could not get enough powder in the case to produce any speed. Went back to my load developed by Travis at RBROS. 42.2 gr of H4350 and a 130 Berger hunting. Shoots great but would like to try the 140-147 ELD-M. As help would be appreciated.

I have ordered all the parts for and am in the process of having built, a 6.5x47 for 1000 yd competition. I wanted a combination that would better the performance of my 30/06 w/SMK 200 BTHP Match but with very little recoil. The bullet I am hoping will work in it,1:8 twist Kreiger) is the Berger 130 VLD. Has anyone gotten that bullet to shoot well, and if so what was the load and how much into the lands or "jump" are you using? I'm also interested in velocity but not to the exclusion of outstanding accuracy.

I have gotten some real good max or near max loading data from the web and from Darrell Jones,who wrote the article on this website) but I am looking for some good starting loads.

Hello , I have done quit a bit of testing with the 47, And I have better long range results from the 140grn Elite hunter from Berger. Loaded with 40grns of RL17 and a CCI 450 , or the Fed small rifle match Primers, both do well. But this is not to say the Berger 130 are bad, I just got really good groups past 500 out to 1000 with the 140s. And this is with a PacNor 1:8 26" barrel. Have just put on a Brux 1:8 26" #5 , can't wait to stretch its legs. Bob

Hey guys, how are you? Just getting ready to do my first build, and I was wondering if I could ask a question or two. I was wondering about barrel type and contour. I was thinking about a Kreiger SS barrel, size #10MTU 26" long. My question was about the twist. I noticed a few different twists and wasn't sure about which would work. My other question was about the actual 6.5x46 Lapua round. I noticed that people use different ammo depending on the situation. My question is, can any 6.5x47 Lapua ammo be used? Is there a difference between the 123gr Scenars, 130gr Bergers, and 139gr Scenars? I know it has to do with weight, but can all 6.5x47 Lapua rounds be used in the same rifle? I will use my rifle for target and tactical competitions. I am going to use the Tactical 30 short action by Stiller. barrel and action will be dropped into an Accuracy International Chassis.

Being that Lapua, is the only manufacturer of 6.5x47 brass, it goes with out saying that is what you intend on loading. I personally tested several 130 grn bullets and powder combo's and thought I was doing great, until I was talked into the 140 class bullets. The 140Gr elite hunter Berger out shot the others including the 130 Hybrid Berger. My 2 go to loads are 40 grns of H4350, with CCI 450 primer , or 40 grns of RL17 with the same primer. The RL17 is about 90fps faster than the H4350. But both a very accurate beyond 500 yrds. Matter of fact I splattered 2 hen eggs in 2 shots at 500, and they were not gumbo size eggs. Just for fun. I am buying a Cooper model 54 with a 24 inch 1-9 twist barrel. Will this stabilize the 130 Berger vld and the Nosler 130 Accubonds out to 600 yards for deer sized game.

Have you looked at the remaining speed and energy at 600 yds ? 2000 fps is minimum for expansion. Pretty sure 6.5 ×47 won't do it.

I have been using the 130 hybrid Bergers, and getting really good velocity from 41 grns of RL17 and the CCI 450 primers. I am shooting a 26", 1~8 4R Brux barrel, and getting 2950~2975 fps and sub MOA accuracy. And very good accuracy out to 1000. My rifle is just a hunting rifle, but holding 3~4" groups at 1000. And actually broke 2 hen eggs suspended from the 500 yard target in 2 shots. And they were not jumbo eggs. Also my barrel likes .015" of jump.

10-4 , i learned something. I know that a lot of bullets generally loose about 300 fps per 100yd's, so 300 × 6 = minus 1800fps. But i did not look at balistic calculations. Always best to be sure.

I just did the calculations and you are correct, it's an amazing little cartridge.

I'm thinking of having a prefit savage barrel chambered for 6.6 x 47, anyone know which smiths are set up to chamber for this new cartridge?

Northland Shooters Supply already have Shilens in that chambering. Mine likes 140 VLDs. Have shot it back to 1200 so far. One group was 6.4 and the 7.3". Good price and they had it in stock.

Generally a little faster powder in the shorter barrel like Varget, but I definitely would also give H4350 a try.

Varget has been my go to for the 6.5x47. H4350 did not perform as consistently with 120 and 130’s.

I’m running 140 Hybrids at 3113 fps from a 31” 1:7.5 Bartline 5R.
Charge was 42.5 grains RS60 (Reloader17 to our colonial cousins), primers CCI BR4.

150 grain Sierra MatchKing #1755 with the same load came in at 3036fps

Hey brand new here so let me know if this is the wrong forum.
I have recently started to try and figure out what cartridge my grandfathers old rifle is chambered in. After doing a chamber cast I have determined that the closest cartridge is the 6x47 Lapua but research says it was introduced around 2006 and this rival was fixed up around 95. Any one know of a case with similar measurements?

Does anybody know of a round built off the 6.5x47 Lapua that is approximately 1.76 long with a 40 degree shoulder? I bought a bunch of 6.5x47 Lapua brass from a guy and found a lot of these mixed in. Thanks
