Here is a .pdf version of the final production drawing of the new 6.5x47 Lapua. Click the attachment to view/download the actual file. You will need Adobe Acrobat to view.

I've also included a screenshot. Dimensions are metric in mm. For inches, divide by 25.4.

I want you guys to know that this diagram was created at my personal request for this website. It helps to have friends in Finland. Thanks to Erkki Seikkula and Tommi Tuuri of Lapua. :thumb:

They will get business out of it have allready made inquiries as to when a shipment will make it to Australia.just have to wait till i hear from my supplier now.

I formed a case tonight using a piece .243 brass and my 6mmBR body die. I necked mine down to 6mm as for my purposes this is probably what I will be doing with this new case. I think it would be fun to neck down to .22 as well. I took a photo of the formed case next to the 6TBR and the .243 Winchester for comparison.

It is pretty close to a 6x47 Lapua. I don't know if it would actually fit a chamber yet. But I wanted a representation of the case to fondle and to use as a rough gauge for playing with some ideas I have. All I did was take a 6TBR case I had already formed and ran it up my Redding 6mmBR body die in a few increments until I got the correct length from the base to the shoulder junction. Then I trimmed to 47mm length. BTW a 6TBR case is easily formed by just running a .243 Win case into a Redding 6mmBR body die until you get a 6mmBR top end.

EXACT CONVERSION.

In the U. S. by statute, one metre = 39.37 inches,we ahve actually been back-doored into the metric system for years.)

To convert MILLIMETRES to INCHES multiply by 0.03937

To convert INCHES to MILLIMEGTRES divide by 0.03937

I have ordered all the parts for and am in the process of having built, a 6.5x47 for 1000 yd competition. I wanted a combination that would better the performance of my 30/06 w/SMK 200 BTHP Match but with very little recoil. The bullet I am hoping will work in it,1:8 twist Kreiger) is the Berger 130 VLD. Has anyone gotten that bullet to shoot well, and if so what was the load and how much into the lands or "jump" are you using? I'm also interested in velocity but not to the exclusion of outstanding accuracy.

I have gotten some real good max or near max loading data from the web and from Darrell Jones, who wrote the article on this website) but I am looking for some good starting loads.

Preliminary results are in for the rifle, which shot very well with in shifting winds,5-15 mph) at 600 yds last weekend.

6.5x47 Lapua Brass, weight sorted to +/- 0.5 gr), Federal 205 primer, 40.5 gr H4350, Berger 130 gr VLD seated 0.010 into the lands. SD 6, ES 20 with an average velocity of 2930 fps.

I am very happy with this combination and will be shooting it at the Regional in Coalinga.

K6ctw,

I am gearing up to get a 6.5 by 47 barrel made. I have the cartridge spec sheet show on this site but haven't figured out what freebore to use. What is your freebore and how did you determine how much to have? Thanks Hank

Hi Folks,
What`s the loaded diameter of a 6.5 X 47 round at the case mouth on "Unturned brass". I`m having Kelbly`s chamber me a 8.5 twist Krieger, with a finished chamber diameter of .293,and this is supposed to be a chamber for "No Turn" brass. I also need to know the diameter of loaded rounds on no turn brass, with .2644" diameter Berger bullets,so that I can order the right neck bushings. Does .002"-.003" neck tension usually do well ? Thanks in Advance,Mike Kerwood,Kodiak Alaska :)

I'm thinking of having a prefit savage barrel chambered for 6.6 x 47, anyone know which smiths are set up to chamber for this new cartridge?

Jim

I chose .160 throat so I could shoot 140 Bergers as well as 130's. For just 130's, I Dave Kiff suggested .125 throat. There is a thread either here or Benchrest central with some tests. Try searching for it, I used it as my starting point. I just posted 130 JLK reloader 15 results on the 130 load thread. 130's jamb seat in my rifle with base of bullet at neck junction of case. 140's seat with full bearing diameter boat tail junction at case neck junction.

This is my rifle:
BCM HUNTER FIELD 6.5X47 Lapua
5C Broughton Barrel "28 /diameter "1450
Click Jewell HRV weight 2 ounces / 56 grams
Scope Leopold Competition 40x45
BCM Action / BCM ERGAL stock/ BCM BARREL BLOCK
JGS Reamer with a 0.292 "neck diameter / free bore" 0.160
total weight approx. 11 KG.
Let me know what you think.

i'm curious what is oal for 130's in kiff's reamer 0125 throat. and what is preferred twist to shot 107-130pills. this sounds like a nice caliber for accurate women or youth to shoot. i have a 6.5x55usa this 6.5x47 sounds better and more forgiving.
