6.5x47 Lapua Diagram Here

I am buying a Cooper model 54 with a 24 inch 1-9 twist barrel. Will this stabilize the 130 Berger vld and the Nosler 130 Accubonds out to 600 yards for deer sized game.

Hey guys, how are you? Just getting ready to do my first build, and I was wondering if I could ask a question or two. I was wondering about barrel type and contour. I was thinking about a Kreiger SS barrel, size #10MTU 26" long. My question was about the twist. I noticed a few different twists and wasn't sure about which would work. My other question was about the actual 6.5x46 Lapua round. I noticed that people use different ammo depending on the situation. My question is, can any 6.5x47 Lapua ammo be used? Is there a difference between the 123gr Scenars, 130gr Bergers, and 139gr Scenars? I know it has to do with weight, but can all 6.5x47 Lapua rounds be used in the same rifle? I will use my rifle for target and tactical competitions. I am going to use the Tactical 30 short action by Stiller. barrel and action will be dropped into an Accuracy International Chassis.
Thank you for the help!
It is truly appreciated!

It should work fine. I use 1:8 to short 142 Sierras. Sierra, nor any other manufacturer I've seen, states a faster twist for 142s or less. When Sierra made 155s, they suggested 1:8.

I am making 6.5x47 brass from 22/250 brass

this is very easy to do.

I use the long tapered expanders from redding
Put a very heavy chamfer on the inside of the case mouth
Lube the inside of the necks with Lee Sizing wax

Neck up from 22/250 to 6/250
Neck up from 6/250 to 25/250
Neck up from 25/250 to 6.5/250

Trim to length
Chamfer inside and outside of case mouth
Set headspace for a slight crush fit for your chamber
Load cases with 9.0g of Bullseye, fill case with cream of wheat, put a tuff of paper towel in the case mouth to seal

Fire form-95% complete

Clean barrel after fire forming with cream of wheat

In my barrel, 37.5g of R#15, Fed 210, Sierra 123g is shooting 0.300 and less at 200 yards to finish fire forming the brass, which is as far as I have got with this new gun.

Hi there guys. I got into the 6.5 x 47 Lapua a few years back. I built mine on a Savage 110 30:06 platform. My 26 in. barrel came from Sharp Shooters Supply, and a stock from Boyds.
. My bullet of choice is a 123 gr. Scenar, with 37 gr. of Varget. I have it topped with a Leupold VX-3 8.5-25x50 LR Target scope. She seems to shoot well way out to 400 plus yards. My friend and I hunt on the grasslands of South Dakota ( wind and all )
I'm interested in what others are using in the way of powder and bullets? Being new
to this site, I would appreciate any advice. Thanks R.Delung

I know this tread is kinda old, but has anyone tried IMR 8208 with the light bullets. Was playing around with it some before i moved into a new home and have had most of my stuff up for a couple years. Just getting it all set back up. Im running a CBI barrel attached to a savage PTA.

Where did you get that supersized quarter? I caught one of those off a Mardi Gras float years ago.:D

Very nice vertical. Looks like a great load.

I see a lot of reamer specs that have the freebore at .167 and others at .175. May be a stupid question but why only .008" difference? Doesn't seem to me to be enough to make a real world difference. What would be the reason for this?

Dave

Standard ones from SAMMI are 167, the 175 is mostly your custom shops that are for running the 140gr bullets. I think when the SAMMI drawing was originally done it was expected that the 130gr Berger was going to be the bullet of choice but it has turned out that the 140s are really what shine in this cartridge.
