Simple question for our Australian members.

In relation to firearms laws within Australia, here are two problems that persist. Firstly Police at the coalface have told the author that we the licensed owners are not the problem.Police command and their political masters will not admit this fact
Secondly only some 3% of containers that come into the country are inspected and/or x/rayed. Thus for a criminal wanting to import anything illegal including firearms he has a 97% chance of success with a shotgun approach.

Looks like more then a few FUDDs down under - “if I have my double barrel or F-class single shot, what more, then do you need?” So, the Ausies were willing to rolling over, take it in the hinder, the folks with guts in the US are not. A fight will be definitely be put up. And some joker thinks the 2nd amendment is
something he/she doesn’t want to talk about.

You have the right to self defence. We have never had that right or privilege. We may only use equal force. Not very equal for the oldies, women or kids and there is no castle law.

Nick- NO
The figures are way off.
The Aussie culture (for most of us) with guns is they are like a set of golf clubs, just for hunting or sport-not self defence.
We haven't had a civil war which may be ONE of your underlying reasons for self defence?
I like the culture we have here and your chance of being shot is extremely low.
However if I lived in south Africa or some other place where the chance of having to defend myself was high- I'd like the option to.
I don't feel like I'm living under some dictatorship, for the most part we can hunt any game anytime unrestricted, quite a lot of public land and if you do your homework there's private land available too.
I can shoot on many ranges within a couple of hours from home.
A semi auto shotgun would be handy for some of my shooting, I just have to work the bolt quicker.
Australia is a great place!

Proud FUDD
You have too many different types of guns to be a true FUDD.
I will concede though, that where you and I sometimes go shooting, a semi auto would actually be useful and we likely would be able to apply for one in our situation (except that we use those trips for fireforming)

The chance of being shot over here is also extremely low, and the right of self defense is a God given right. I guess the way you are raised has a lot to do with your point of view.

Well written and I'm sure accurate but unfortunately means nothing. I say this because these people don't really care about gun control, they want CONTROL.They care little about the numbers. They want us gun owners to do as they do. Period. I read something the other day that really struck home. When a republican/conservative doesn't believe in guns or hunting then he won't hunt or have a gun. When a Democrate/liberal doesn't believe in hunting or guns then he doesn't want you to hunt or have a gun. So true.JMO

Nailed it. It is about control.

I’m interested in the “God given” part?
Our nation has Christianity as it’s foundation in law and holidays etc.
While most don’t know this and sections of our society, like yours, seek to tear it apart - at our extreme peril.
So I may have been raised in a similar way.
I believe in the right to self defence, where I live it’s not much of an issue, thankfully.
I’m guessing you have guns loaded around the house ready to use and a mind set that someone could burst in at any minute? - A genuine question

Being prepared for the worst is not paranoia. When seconds count the police are minutes away. They are not the first responders in the unlikely event of a home invasion. The homeowner is.

If you’re not paranoid you must at least be living with a very uneasy feeling- all the time?
I’ve only slept with a loaded gun beside me once, didn’t sleep so well that night.
Nothing happened which was great.

I’ll give you part of a situation that happened to me not long ago.
Wife and I woke up to what we thought was the screen door of our bedroom opening at around 2am.
Couldn’t see anything so went back to bed
No locks on the screen, we are a bit out of town so no one randomly walks past.
Next morning I found the potential intruder asleep on my front porch.
There’s more to the story but what would you have done assuming the intruder made it into your house?

If I hear anything that isn't supposed to be in or around my house at 2am:, I go to look with a handgun in my right hand and a flashlight in my left. Flashlight might or might not be lit, but the handgun will be loaded. jd

I’m curious to know what action(s), if any, you would have taken if you had seen the potential intruder at 2:00AM on your porch?

You read a lot in to my post and assume much about my feelings.

About all I’ll say in regards to being awakened at 2:00 in the morning by a potential intruder is that I would have handled it differently than you.
