I have a Glock Model 40 with an aftermarket stainless steel bbl . But a factory spring. I have Blue dot powder and 180 gr XTP ,what primer recommendation,is a magnum primer un- necessary for stout loads?
I only use magnum primers in ball powder loads for pistol. H110 and the like. Test both ways.I have a Glock Model 40 with an aftermarket stainless steel bbl . But a factory spring. I have Blue dot powder and 180 gr XTP ,what primer recommendation,is a magnum primer un- necessary for stout loads?
Dusty , I shoot tons of Berry's bullets in 9mm and the instructions from Berry's is to load them as lead or low to medium fmj data... In the Glock they build pressure like lead and in 9mm the lead data was right on the money I can't imagine loading them to the medium fmj data... I loaded a few by accident at the max lead data and they were very fast... Just thought I would mention this for safety... Also don't be surprised if you get a few strange flyers past 15 yards... Berry's has been threatening to publish load data for years but they never do.... I myself am fixing to pick up a G20 and have already decided not to run Berry's in it... For that one I will pay a little more for my bullets I think....Anybody got a good stout load recipe for power pistol and 180gr plated bullets?
I loaded up 50 with power pistol at 1240-1245fps and they shoot as good as any jacketed ive tried at 30yd but any farther i dont know. Ill just keep using the underwoods until i can test em more but so far they look ok. Still not a bear load though which is the main reason i have it.Dusty , I shoot tons of Berry's bullets in 9mm and the instructions from Berry's is to load them as lead or low to medium fmj data... These berrys are copper coated hardcast- are you talking about something else?Yep, don’t expect great accuracy. Had some store-bought 38 Wadcutters loaded with plated bullets and they had a bunch of 7s. In my 9 Luger combat loads, I’ll get about 1 in 10 that are flyers. All over the target so it isn’t me either. They’re fine for training and general shooting but serious competitors shoot either jacketed or coated cast.
Nope plated bullets in general. Because of the process used they don’t have a uniform coating. These berrys are copper coated hardcast- are you talking about something else?
I have found this to be true I get a strange flyers about 1/10... Out of 50 rounds there's 5 or so that hit in places that make you raise an eyebrow... I have shot thousands and thousands of Berry's bullets in 9mm and always had the problem... Once I sent back part of a thousand pack because I was having such a problem I sat down and started weighing some and in that pack the weights were what I would consider dangerous in some if you were loading hot loads... Which I am not but even yesterday or the day before I went and shot , out of 30 rounds that I shot ( I took my neighbor ) I had 3 , one hit so high it barely clipped the target , and two touching at 5oclock... The rest in a group you could cover with you palm....Yep, don’t expect great accuracy. Had some store-bought 38 Wadcutters loaded with plated bullets and they had a bunch of 7s. Back when I was into 10mm, most the the guys pushing the heat preferred Longshot or 800-x. 800-x is a pain to meter, and can sneak up on you (especially over the 9gr mark). Power Pistol was considered to go not quite as far before pressure when chasing ultimate speed in 10mm with 165/170/180/200s.Power pistol is the ticket for stout loads in the 10mm.
Never heard of this powder, who makes BE -86I’ve been getting 1316 average velocity from a 180XTP bullet in my 6” Kimber 10mm using BE-86. And the lowest extreme spread of ANY load I’ve ever seen. 4fps! I can’t wait to try it at 200 yds, silhouette shooting!

And it’s a favorite pistol powder of mine. I only switched to Sport Pistol because for my use it works better (fast burn). Be-86 is flash suppressed, but pretty snappy with recoil. Made warm heavy 9mm loads with it felt like 40sw.Alliant powder
