How Many Kinetic Bullet Pullers Have You Broken?

None. I lent my first one out and never got it back. I bought a Frankford Arsenal with metal shaft that seems like it will hold up.

That happens to be the exact one that a went bang with me. It wasn't tough enough! Funny thing is only the primer went off and, thankfully no powder ignited. The primer is what caused all that damage to puller and light.

I only broke one. I replaced it but rarely use it except to adjust a bullet that may be .001" or so too deep when reloading. That just takes a light bump. I replaced it several years with collet pullers and never looked back. I always cringed when pounding too hard expecting a loud BOOM!.

"I have had the same bullet puller for 30 years." First one lasted at least 20 years, only used it when I had 10 or less rounds to pull if I hit a pressure ceiling while load testing. Keep two on hand now if I am pulling a few rounds. If I am pulling down a lot of ammo ,such as salvaging components from military ball, I use an old Pacific collet puller in a single stage "C" press.

I have purchased one and it still works. Many years old. The brand is Quinetics.

Still have original RCBS from way back when. Came with the wire spring to hold the 3 jaws. The aluminum lip finally sheared off after 20 or so yrs. Bought a new set of 'jaws' or whatever that had the O ring which was at least 10yrs ago and they finally sheared off this summer. Scheel's in Bismarck never had just the jaws so bought a complete new RCBS with the 3 different sized jaws just 3 months or so ago. For the last 15 yrs if I have more than 4-5 rds needing bullets pulled I use a RCBS collet type. But yea the first one with square or hex shaft has been banged on the concrete more times than a cheap hooker, or on my barrel vise.lol

o-rings or shell holders; makes no difference when a live rounds goes off in the puller.
Handle was in my hand, pieces of puller all around and the fluorescent bulb in tiny shards that took a month to clean up.
Glad I was wearing safety glasses.
How did this happen? What struck the primer to detonate it?

There was nothing to strike the primer. The primer detonated(I feel like it was set off by the force of the blow) and blew out the back of the puller without, thankfully, igniting the powder. There was no primer left in the fully intact round that had been in the puller. Still the hammer body blew apart and came off the handle. It is a totally unexplainable coincidence and I hope to never have it happen again.

Cracked mine after 15 years. Made a bushing to fit over the impact end, expoxied it in place. Pulled 30 rounds of 308 last week. Looks good for another 15 years.
