Baiting has never worked so well for me. Haven't done it a bunch, but when we did, it just seems like they're a lot better at showing up when we're not there than when we are.
Just because there is a tasty treat in a spot doesn't mean that they will give up standard coyote protocol, and throw caution to the wind. I've never had night vision tech to use, and I imagine that will help.
As far as cows go, I've seen dead cows lay undisturbed until they turned to jerkey after the butt-hole and guts were gone. I don't think they are toward the top of the list for coyote cuisine.
Old trapper technique called for a dead horse, killed in a spot with several converging draws and travel routes. Then set traps on the routes traveled to and from the carcass. jd
