Noise from 300 blackout

Looking to get a 300 blackout upper and run some subsonic ammo. (no suppressor)
How loud is it compared to a 22lr? Louder, same or quieter?

Sounds like a normal rifle round. Probably a little louder than a .22 IMO. Definitely need hearing protection.

I'm having a few coyotes passing by once in awhile and wanted something bigger than a 22lr
Don't want to piss off the neighbors with a 223 or larger. Can't run a can in the state where I live.
So a subsonic 300 blackout round seemed a good choice.

You have a .17 HMR? The type of shooting you’re doing sounds like good yote medicine.

My experience, the bullet doesn't make the "sonic Boom" but there is still the noise from the bullet leaving the barrel. Sounds about like a .22 LR.
Did this on a bolt gun. Have a friend using a 300 Blackout on an AR and reports subsonic to be "much less noise" Probably has more to do with the ear of the beholder.
I know this wasn't much help, but it's all subjective.

Subsonic rounds from inside a building are neighbor friendly. You do need to be a fair bit back from the opening, either window or door. Check your local laws.

Depends on barrel length and powder choice. Somewhere between a 6" centerfire pistol and a 22 rifle.

Remember a 45 acp is subsonic and you can get subsonic 9MM. Muzzle blast will depend on how much powder has not burned by the time the bullet exits.

I don't like pistol gas in a long barrel because its way over gassed for supers, but looking for the quietest load without a suppressor, pistol gas will allow faster powders. You will have less noise, less flash. Not sure I would bother with factory ammo.

With a reasonable barrel length (10” or so) and suppressor out of an AR, subsonics are pretty quiet. A .22LR (unsupressed) is much louder. You still get a pop out of the ejection port and the action itself isn’t silent, but hearing protection isn’t needed.

Shooting them without a suppressor seems kind of pointless. But they’re pretty loud. Louder than a .22

^ great point! I couldn’t get subs to shoot out of my 16 inch 300BO. It had a 1:8 twist barrel. They would just tumble and group about 10 inches at 50 yards. Swapped to super sonic ammo and I was getting 1.5 to 2 inches at 100.

it has been shown time and again it is marginal at best with good shooting, they blow up on any bone and maims more than an occasional coyote. If you’re gonna shoot ‘em do it humanely.

Use a longer flash can on it and it will send the noise it is making more down range. Especially in pistols they help make life better on the shooter.

223 with 13grs. of Bluedot with 40gr Vmax will shock you.

Now that's something I didn't think of, down loading a 223 round.
Would that only work in a bolt gun?
Any idea what speed that's running?
Have you used it on anything?

It will fire in an AR. It won’t cycle though. Short stroke. You’ll turn your AR into a single shot unless you have an adjustable gas block.

Lol , alot louder than a .22.... Pushing a subsonic round through a good can is very nice , taking the can off not so much... It's amazing how good some cans with the right rounds can be so silent.... There's so much to every piece of the puzzle here... Go out and find someone doing exactly what you want and check it out.... Then buy once , the price is to high and the wait to long not to....
