New Rifle Build

I already have more rifles than I need but I decided I wanted to do a special build.

Remington 700 trued action
Bartlein barrel 22 cal
Jewel Trigger
Leopold 45X target scope
Two bolts, 223 and 308
Had the barrel lug pined to ease changing barrels
All smith work done by Bob Green. One hell of a nice guy.

Now for the really good part. The stock was a gift from Joshb who is a member here. I had visited him in July and admired his stocks. I actually gushed over them. So when I started looking for advice on what stock to use, Josh very graciously offered me one. This stock is made from an Walnut tree that Josh and his father cut down over 50 years ago. Josh told me he has put 20 coats of hand rubbed oil into the finish and these photos do not do justice to it.

Now for the big question. did I get my money's worth. Oh hell yes. Chambered for .223 Remington, the first 42 shots where grouping around 3/8 or a little more, using Varget and Bart's 65 gr bullets. That was during the first steps of my break in procedure. Then disaster and Murphys Law took over and I inadvertently mus have left a patch in the barrel. Luckily it was two inches from the muzzle and it is now back at Bob Greens to be shortened to 22 inches.

I plan to get a 30 BR barrel. It has become my pride and joy and is named "Nick's Folly."

I'm sorry about that patch thing, but at least you weren't hurt.

I have become super paranoid about checking my bore every time I shoot. I stick a case sideways in the chamber and sight it from the muzzle to see the reflection. Every time I clean

From that moment on, the first thing I do at the range is run a soft brush down the tube and then look down the barrel before I put the bolt back in.

I was lucky on two counts. The damage was in a place that could be cut off and most importantly, I did not get hurt.
