Lets talk about your bag (rear bag that is).

This is my first year of shooting (Yes, I shot one match in 1988) and I'm on my 4th rear bag. I've had one from what I think are the top (best) bag makers. Tell me what you like about yours and why, I just received a new Edgewood after talking with Ryan and I'm taking it out on Wednesday, I can already tell you this is the highest quality bag I've had, granted the Protektor I've got is 30 years old and is still in great condition and is not the same type bag (it's the old squeeze type) so a comparison to it isn't fair.
What do you like about yours and why, I'm bored.20190826_163404.jpg 20190826_163356.jpg 20190826_163410.jpg

I really like that one you have.
I use my protector pillow propped on my Edgewood for a hand rest.
If I did buy again I'd get an offset like yours.

Tracking is the key
I’m actually a bit chicken to spend a lot on bags because if it doesn’t track I’m out $ and have to start over.
I like borrowing from a buddy to try um out first

now that's a bag...nice !!!!

I have been using two Protektor Flat Top Dr. Rear Bags with the Slick Silver material, 1/2” and 3/4" ear spacing, and they have worked great for F-Open.

However, this past weekend I shot the lowest score I have shot since my early days of shooting F-T/R several years ago. While shooting (1000 yards), I blamed my poor performance on the variable wind, not paying attention to the fact that I had just shot two matches with decent results.

The Rear Bag was the culprit! (Well, not the bag itself.)

When I removed my 284W rifle to pack it away, I noticed that the rear bag rocked badly from side to side, and some front to back. I had noticed this when I first set it up, but at the time it did not appear anywhere as bad as it really was. The problem was the surface under my shooting mat, where I place the rear bag – it was a small mound, about 2" high. I had to setup my position about a foot from where I had set it previously, and this new surface was bad. To compensate for the rear bag sitting on the mound, I had to raise my front rest 2 inches higher than where it had been. No problem, I thought, not being aware of the instability of the ear bag. To shoot, I barely touch my shoulder against the stock, and barely feel the cheek piece, so the rifle is rather free to recoil. A wobbly rear bag definitely does not help maintain the rifle on target during the firing sequence.

Moral of my experience: Beware of how you setup your rear bag - ANY BAG, and what is underneath to keep it steady as you shoot.

Thanks Alex for sharing, I have a LOT to learn but the "trip" is worth it!! Love this sport!

That is one (of many things) thing I am working on, the spacing now fits the gun very good, will know more tomorrow.

I like it off the bottom and on the ears. That's how my stuff is set up. Conversely, I shot my neighbors PPC using my bag. With his gun it rode on the bottom of the bag and still shot great. Go figure.
There are some things that are exact science............and then there is benchrest and F class and ..................:p

Still haven't gotten anyone to say "this is what I like about mine"! Or I wish I'd gotten one that ..............! I'm looking forward to the range today.

Please take a few pictures of the rifle setting the new rear bag. it looks great. I shoot F-Class. shooting off a rear bag is new to me. I'm currently using the Protector Dr flat top Bag. I like it, but I don't have the experience to reflect on other bags.

20190828_103350.jpg 20190828_103416.jpg I absolutely love this bag!! It is so nice to be able to rest my hand up front near the trigger and it doesn't disrupt the gun at all! I even hit the bag a couple of time trying to do it and if I hit it hard enough it did but just putting my hand on there and resting it on the bag did not change the POA. Oh, if you look to the right and see the hat I've found another use for it :p:cool::D:rolleyes:
