Cloth Mirage Shield

I see people in Palma and sling shooting using cloth mirage shields. Where do I get one and how would you attach it to a benchrest gun?

Champions Shooter Supply and Campions Choice both have them. I’ve used one from champions choice on my Palma rifle for years, Dave

^This. Link below to Champions Choice and also a Amazon link to women’s hair bands to hold them to the barrel. It takes 3 to hold in place on a 30” barrel. I’ve used for years. Put them on every barrel from shot one. Work my load up with them on and never take off. You’ll forget they’re there. No more worries on really windy days of your mirage shield folding up or coming unsecured.
One less distraction to worry about.

I went to a local Fabric Shop and you buy the black elastic ribbon material .
The shoemaker can sow the ends with the loop needed .
Works out cheaper the store made and shipping .

Okay, how does one of these work? How is it affixed to the barrel?
They work by re-directing the heat waves that come from your barrel around your sighting system. I use a section of venetian blind spray painted flat black. I put it on with adhesive velcro dots. I've found that if you put it on with the curve facing up it works much better than if it were flipped over.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

So I decided I am going to make a mounting system for a elastic barrel band. Here is the first piece. It mounts to the picatinny. 20190731_075855.jpg 20190731_075840.jpg 20190731_075832.jpg

Being the wizard that I am, I sure would like to see one mounted on a gun.
I understand and use an old piece of venetian blind on my 6PPC gun, just a bit confused as to why these. Easier to store, transport?

Do a Goggle search on ‘elastic mirage band’, click on the images button and you’ll see lots of pics of them mounted on rifles.

Here is the elastic mount. There will be a hook glued in the square mount.
