6BRA for short range?

What is the thought on this? Benchrest from 100-300 yards with the BRA, good? Bad? or just Ugly? Will it compete with the likes of 6PPC or 30BR? or even the 6BR??

Good bullets and barrels trump any differences but if it were me, for short range, I'd lean more toward a straight 6br, ppc 30 Major or 30br. I'm shooting a 6 Grendel that is very promising and falls right between a ppc and a br, for capacity.

I'm thinking I'll stay with the 30BR as I have brass, powder, primers, dies, and a little (very little) knowledge on it too.

He may've toyed with it but mostly at 600 and beyond. I know he has raved about a 6 Grinch giving a ppc a run for its money in short range...which is a slightly larger 6 Grendel..fwiw.

He's at the super shoot but maybe he'll reply later.

He was shooting the 80 at short range with the 6BRA.

I talk to Bart regularly and I don't think he has ever used his BRA in short range Benchrest. He has reported that Greg King has used the Grinch and his 80 gr. BT and has some success in short range BR. Good shooting...James

He said he used the Alex Wheeler reamer with his 80s I assumed that was short range.

So we have gotten to the point that the 6BRA is NOT going to beat the 6PPC, 30BR or even the 6BR? Is that correct? I am choosing to continue to shoot the 6PPC that I had built about 1989 by James Messer and did not shoot until about 3-4 months ago (life got in the way). I am also in the process of building a 30BR, I may never win a match but I'll be there to meet some of the coolest people on earth and that is you (the shooters). I'm always looking for "good" advise on the next caliber or gun, I don't guess I'll ever learn ;-(

No, Larry Moore sure made one look good last year. Again, good barrels and bullets will trump any difference between them, IMHO. If a ppc is the holy grail and a straight br won't keep up, I don't understand the logic that a bra will be better, though. I ran a bunch of numbers a few years back and with an 80gr vs a ppc with a 68 gr bullet, and the Grendel is very near the same in regard to capacity to bullet weight and bearing surface. Now, that and 50 cents might get you a bad cup of coffee somewhere but it stands to reason that the bra is a tad too big to be optimal. Again, good barrels and bullets...

This got messed up somehow so I tried to seperatethe 2 comments.

Fred Hasecuster won the SS with a 6BR short that he developed called the6Talldog. He had a following and all those guys could shoot.. Don't know how short but someone will chime in.
