What twist rates for 55 gr bullets in 22

I have a number of 55 grain 22 bullets some nosier ballistic tips, some in Hornady and Sierra. I have two fast twist 1-9 22-250's and then I have a 223 9 twist and 8 twist. Has anyone shot these bullets in these twist rates? If so how did they perform and what velocities did they work at? I'm only looking to shoot out to 300 yds.

They'll work perfectly in 8-12 twist. The 8-9 twist is faster than you need but will shoot them well.

Thanks, I have shot a few in my 8 twist but never recorded them in groups. That is good to know. So I'll get busy loading some development loads.

In my 8" twist Tikka 223, I had to slow the velocity down to get sub 1 moa groups with 55 Nosler BT's. The same with my 223 Vanguard 9" twist; however the 55's shoot extremely well once I found the right powder charge.

I tried 55 gr Nosler BTs in a Savage 10FP .223 with 1:9 twist. Best I could do was 1" groups at 100 yards, the 69 gr match bullets did about 1/4" at 100 yards. Never thought about slowing the bullets down but guess that would have worked.

I shoot 55s in a 1/9 barrel all the time . I have best results with H4895 at Hodgdon's recommended starting load give or take a tenth or two . I only shoot them at 100-200 yds so have no idea what they are doing at distance.

I called Nosler, he said they should work just fine in 9 tw. I shoot 50 gr. Ballistic tips in my 14 tw. 220 Swift and they shoot .375 groups consistently. I hear what you all are saying. I'll work up some test loads, see what happens.

I just worked up a load with 52 gr bthp SMK in a 9" twist 223 20"bbl. They shot very nice for sure.

With Win-748. Win. Brass. 205m, 25.4 gr / 26.6 & 26.9 gr all were 1/2 moa or better.

1/12 WILL PRINT SOME FINE GROUPS BUT I HAVE A SAVAGE L/A 110 TACTICAL 223 WITH A 1/9 THAT SHOOTS VERY WELL WITH 50GR V-MAXS AND H-4895
