home-made 'strong mount'?

Anyone made one of their own? I've got a strong mount under my Dillon RL550B and am firmly convinced that it was a Very Good Idea ;)

I've got a Hornady LnL AP sitting on another bench and the ram and pivot point stick down far enough that it blocks the cabinet door below, so I was entertaining the idea of moving it 'up'.

Solid blocking is certainly one option, though perhaps a tad inelegant. I've seen some wooden frames made from 3/4 ply in Sinclair Int'l from time to time, made for mounting a press at an angle on a counter or table. I've got the tools and materials to fabricate something similar; just figured I'd ask around a bit before going down that road - not sure how much actual strain is placed on the joints, etc. I was figuring on using shouldered dadoes along with glue and screws to reinforce things... any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Monte

I made a platform for mounting two presses 9 inches above my reloading bench surface. Both the platform and the reloading surface are made of 3/4 plywood. The surface extends 6 inches beyond the steel cabinet below and I was experiencing flex in the benchtop when I operated the press. I used a router to inset two lengths of aluminum angle stock along the right and left edges of the "table" where it meets the cabinet below. Problem solved.

i cut a piece of 6 inch I beam at a 45 degree angle. Purpose was to raise press 6 inches and to extend about 6 inches out from work bench. I beam bolted to bench and press bolted to I beam. works fantastic.

20190121_090725_resized_2.jpg here you go Chris. took me a while to figure out to post pics. my computer kung fu is novice at best. the distance from bench is ideal but I think another 4 inches in elevation would help.

Mine aren’t home made, but thought I’d share anyway. I’ve got multiple presses, and couldn’t be happier with the In-Line Fabrication mounts. Neil

I have my reloading room in my Spousal Avoidance Center, not at my house. This is the only pic I have

I must be weird cause i like my presses mounted lower to the bench. My bench is high enough i use a bar stool or stand so its not like i just dont like the height cause mine are probably taller than most mounted straight to the bench

I wouldn't go as far to say your weird.

I love my inline Fabrication and strong mount
As I do my work sitting and the mounts bring everything up to eye level.

Seems like i get more leverage or more natural after all these years with the press being at waist level instead of reaching

As I get older I find it is easier to see what is going on in my press having it raised closer to my face!

Here is my take on a cheap mount. Made from MSR-2400 2x8 & 3" wood screws.
I clamp it on all 4 corners on the coffee table that's weight down with hundreds of magazines. Take 2 minutes to mount on and off.

Ridgeway, really like your design. Think I'll redo mine.
Thanks. Notice the forster... there is two plates on top. Had to mount a plate to press first using countersink bolts then bolted it to the press mount. It needed to be that way because of bolt pattern on Forster press. I'm sure you can make them all that way and design a quick change top to the mounts...

I bought an In-line Fabrication mount for mine, and love it.

Since I am not a welder or metal fabricator.....Inline Fab "Quick Change" Mounts were the way to go for me. One plate mounted to the center of my bench (a Gladiator workbench with a 1 3/4" solid maple top that is bolted to the wall) allows me to swap out 3 presses and a bench primer in about 2 minutes per swap out. They sit in Inline Fab brackets also bolted to the wall when not in use.
