223 cal bolt gun 68gr vs 69 gr

I bought some Black Hills Blue box with 68 gr bullets that shot lights out in a custom bolt action 1:8 twist. Later shot some Hornady 69 gr bullets match grade and they grouped not even close. What powder are most of you using with this weight round? I was thinking 4895H?

I think the Hornady are 68 Sierra and Nosler are 69 gr

You're aren't the only one to find the Hornady 68 gr. BTHP very accurate...
I'd work around the H4895 burn rate and find what the barrel likes, JMHO

I’m in the same boat. I’ve been looking for a 69 grain SMK load without much luck finding anything that groups well at 300. The usual result is around .75-1.25 MOA. Varget, AA-2230, & Re-15 are the powders I’ve tried. A LGS shared that the Hornady 68 grain HPBT pushed by H-335 was a favorite of some customers. No love here.
When the range conditions permit, I’m trying H-4895, IMR-4320, and 8208, maybe even 3031 & 4064 with both.

I’ll be interested in your results.

The best load I have found for my .223 Savage LRPV with a 1 in 9 twist is the 69gr Sierra Match Kings over 25.0 W748 with a Federal 205M primer and either Remington or Lapua brass set between .005-.0010 off the lands. It shoots in the high 1's and low 2's 5 shot groups.

My f class 300 yd load was AA2015BR 22.5gr win brass wolf srm primers 2.26oal with 69smk. Will clean mr63f target if you do your part. Barnard 223rem 26 8 twist bbl

My # 1 load is N540 ,20.5 Grs @ 3214 fps out of my 1 in 9 twist savage factory Model 12fvss rifle.this round is capable of 5/8 "
groups at 200 yards consistantly .
Varget and H 335 are comprable powders you may consider.

Sierra 69MK, 24.7 H4895, CCI 400 SR primer, Winchester brass, 0.025" JUMP. Great 300 yd result in Savage 12BVSS 1-9.

The Blackhills factory 68gn load IS very good. Tiny groups at 600 yards as well from a 5.56 AR sniper rifle configuration (Noveske barreled of course).

I asked a similar question a few months back...one suggestion was 24.5 of Varget with 69gr SMK and to seat them something to the tune of jumping 5 -25-50-75 and one of them will shoot . Ended up they liked a jump of 20,dialed in the load with less than 30 rounds . Best recipe I have found for this 1/9 twist barrel.

IMR 4320 with Fed 205M
IMR 8208 with CCI 450's
Both give sub moa out to 300+ easily with an 8 twist using the Nosler 70 grain RDF bullets and Lapua Brass.

I have a load with the Hornaday 68 bthp match and CFE .223, WSR primer. Ragged whole groups at 100 yards. It holds pretty dang good out to 500 yards. At 600 the wind is a big factor. I've seen the 70RDF hold together accuracy wise for another 150 yards.

It isn't very popular with most crowds, but I've found bl-c-2 to be one of if not the fastest and most accurate powders for 223. The reason that it isn't real popular is that it's fairly temperature sensitive. Other than that it's great.
