UK Daily Mail news item Dated Nov 30 2018:

"Dick's Sporting Goods "considers" removing hunting supplies from stores because of a decline in sales since they banned selling guns to anyone under 21 and stopped stocking assault rifles.

Its third-quarter net sales report showed a decline to $1.86 billion from $1.94 billion for the same 2017 period and adjusted same-store sales down 3.9 percent.

"The Pennsylvania-based retailer made the political decision due to the February school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

A brutal attack by a former student with an AR-15 rifle left 17 killed and 15 injured
The gunman had bought a weapon, though not the murder weapon, from Dick's ".

Although the decision to drop assault rifles from its shelves and raise the minimum purchase age for firearms to 21 at its stores was political,
the shift away from hunting items is purely based on the bottom line for Dick's."

I'm old enough to remember when reading the news or watching on TV was ... boring / dry ( a la Walter Kronkite) because it was a recitation of information. Just facts. Why is a British paper reporting on this issue?

I added quotation marks, color bold, underlined.

doesn't seem to be news; more of a - what?
threat,
PR team placing "news"?
cause & effect?

Not sure why a British paper is reporting on Dick's "considering to..." take action.
This is news...? considering to "do...something."?

I think that the media is overthinking this or just trying to sell the news.. I think that the big chain sporting goods stores have over saturated the market, have limited stocks of things shooters/hunters want, poor customer service, and have priced themselves out of the market.
At one time, Houston had 3 Gander Mountain (gone), 5-6 Dicks, 2 Bass Pro and 1 Cabelas. I am sure I have missed some. You generally have to do some driving to get to their stores.
Then, you have Academy. They have been in business here for 25+ years and have stores in almost every neighborhood. They, for a long time have had everything the camper, hunter, fisherman, and if the game is played with a ball, they have that too. They know their customer base and prices are probably 10-20% less than the big boys.
When Dicks pulled their publicity stunt, that was just another nail in the coffin. They, as a company, made too many bad business decisions.

today makes me think of what prohibition was like. You can't legislate morals or behavior. It seems today we can ignore some bad behavior and beat others. Probably regular human behavior in a vacuum where it is more important to form public opinion.

They spend alot of time worried about us. Might take their minds off of some of the ridiculousness out there own window.
Their concern might be due to the tens of millions of dollars that Dick's invested in JJBSports over there.

JRS, out of curiosity, are you the former writer Jon R. Sundra. I know that you probably are not him, but I am merely curious. Thanks, and good shooting...James
