Although the 30BR uses less powder, all other things being equal, the 30BR can push a 125 grain bullet at least as fast as the 260 Remington can, probably even faster.
As a matter of fact, a 30BR topped off with the 125 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip would be perfect for deer hunting where I live.
For hunting mule deer & pronghorn, though, with just about anything, range finders have made 1/4 mile shots easy, I have come to prefer a LOT more velocity and 25 Cal. cartridges. That said, here are some calculations: my 118 Gr., 10 ogive, at 3050 FPS (typical 30BR MV) would deliver 1083 FPE at 400 Yd.; a 125 Gr. bullet, would deliver about 1,200 FPE @ 400, and 1,000+ out to 475. That would cover most deer hunting.
One could dredge way back, in the past (as I recall, mid 1960s gun rag articles), and see how effective the original .308 Barnes performed on game - albeit in that era, they were using heavier, more traditional weight bullets with the reduced velocity, and also heavy (180-200 Gr. or so) cast bullets.
I see no compelling reason to use a 30 BR - unless one wants to build/own and hunt with one!! RG
Theres just something about this case that facinates me looking at pictures. I like small cases, and my 6BR is amazing...
I got most things to do a 30BR and reload it already, and a box of 6BR brass just sitting collecting dust...
Whats the recoil like?
Whats the max kill range for deer? I know its dead nuts accurate 200-300 yards, what do they do at 400? I got other guns if I needed to shoot further... most shots are 100-200 anyways... seem like itd be a deer killer round... 6BR is...
What kinda velocity could i expect from a 16-18 inch barrel and 110-118gr bullets?
Hunting bullets in this grain range?
17 twist?
30BR has been a tick on my side for a long time... I like the grendel case and 30 major, but Itd cost me more to go that route as I dont have a ppc bolt face...

They don't have to be made for hunting. The original Berger target bullets are now referred to as hunting bullets. The light bullets are for competition. Need to verify if they will expand on deer size animals. Check reloading manuals or websites to see if any 112-118 gr bullets are made for hunting.

I'm not the OP but, it would sure be interesting in reading the steps necessary to make a 30BR case.
