Thanks in advance for any input. I would like to get a Savage small shank pre fit in 22 BR and use Lapua brass. I want to shoot the 75 - 80 grain bullets with a 7 twist in case i want to try some 80+ bullets also.
The two reamer prints for a Shilen pre fits are 22 BR Remington, Match with a .243 neck and 22 BR Remington with a .248 neck. I'm not opposed to neck turning but .224 + .013 + .013 = .250 so turning down to .0105 on the .248 chamber or turning down to .008 for the .243 chamber seems like a lot without consideration for the larger Lapua base I've read about.
Can anyone whose been down this road please help me get me squared away. From what I've read the Lapua brass has a larger base than the old Remington brass and most of the dies available seem to be set up for the old remington brass.
Is the base difference between Lapua and Remington enough to worry about? I have a Wilson 6 BR Rem. inline neck sizer that that you can tap a Lapua case in with a a couple light soft blow hammer strikes in and taps right out with the decap rod.
I would like to keep it simple, 6 BR lapua brass necked down with enough turned off to make the necks clean. I would think .012 after turning would require a .251 neck.
Anyone know of a smith with a reamer that would do this? Thanks again!
