California Exemption on AR for Comp

Going to Twentynine Palms for a shoot on Dec 1st. Taxifornia has a exemption for that purpose. It allows persons going to competitions, to carry non bullet button legal AR's. I used to have a copy in my gun bag, but have misplaced it somewhere. Does anyone know the code. I want to have it handy in case I get stopped by an lawman.

I am also interested in this topic as I have been asked to shoot out in Long Island NY. Not sure what a non bullet button legal is but I am thinking NY has the same compliant.
 
I'm in new york. As far as I know we have no exemption for either competition or out-of-staters. I didn't think CA. did either, outside of Ca registered AWs, but I can't confidently say they don't.

Most people locally shoot compliant featureless rifles or grandfathered registered rifles. If they're not registered they're illegal so I'm sure they're registered. :(
 
I live in California and compete in several different types of matches. I'm pretty sure I would know of such law if it existed, but I do not. I do have a friend who owns a gun store who is a big time 3gun shooter (nation wide). After the assault weapon laws went into effect here I was told that only law enforcement and ffl holders (under the assumption that there demoing assault weapons to the law enforcement guys) could still shoot 3gun without having to compete in the stupid cal compliant class (bullet button & 10 rd mags). Now bullet buttons are illegal. They never stop with this crap, yet the mass shootings continue.

Yup we're screwed here in NY, no exemptions for Competitions except for being able to load 8 rounds in a mag, the Law is 7 max.

Possession of assault weapons is prohibited, except for those legally possessed on January 15, 2013 and registered with the state by January 15, 2014 or classified as an antique assault weapon. New York City, Buffalo, Albany, and Rochester have enacted their own assault weapon bans. Law enforcement and retired law enforcement are exempt from the assault weapons ban.

7 rounds in a 10 round mag was struck down by a federal court almost immediately as effecting only law abiding people and doing nothing to stop criminals from loading 10.

There is still a fair amount of weirdness about the status. Some PD say they'll charge it , some DA say they'll prosecute, most of both say no.
 
Just because, I Googled the Cal. Penal Code 12280. Looks the same to me. The reference to Ca Code 12026.1/.2 is reference to carrying/transporting concealed or weapons not in the trunk of the vehicle. Reference to Ca Code 25520 Chapter2 Article 3 is about going to or from a recognized sporting event.
 
Specifics and exemptions of transport laws are irrelevant when you can't possess the weapon in CA at all. There would need to be an exemption specifically to the possession law.
 
Another option is to make it “ featureless” under California law. It’s not very hard to make it California compliant.

Take off the flash hider if you have one, put a grip like this on it

And if you have a collapsible stock ( like a UBR) then put your A2 stock back on it.

That should do it.

Once you’re on the base just put it back in any configuration you want.

A magazine release that you can't operate with your finger.
A previous law made a fixed magazine any mag that required a tool to release.
Any rifle with a fixed mag was not an assault weapon.
Manufactures made them to require pushing the center of the release with any moderately pointed object.
For AR shooters a 223 bullet was a handy object that would work.

I agree that this is legally the case in CA and NY but I would be very worried about cops arresting and charging anyway. I believe one would avoid conviction. Eventually.

Think I found it:

30665.

Sections 30600, 30605, and 30610 shall not apply to the possession and importation of an assault weapon or a .50 BMG rifle into this state by a nonresident if all of the following conditions are met:

(a) The person is attending or going directly to or coming directly from an organized competitive match or league competition that involves the use of an assault weapon or a .50 BMG rifle.

(b) The competition or match is conducted on the premises of one of the following:

(1) A target range that holds a regulatory or business license for the purpose of practicing shooting at that target range.

(2) A target range of a public or private club or organization that is organized for the purpose of practicing shooting at targets.

(c) The match or competition is sponsored by, conducted under the auspices of, or approved by, a law enforcement agency or a nationally or state recognized entity that fosters proficiency in, or promotes education about, firearms.

(d) The assault weapon or .50 BMG rifle is transported in accordance with Section 25610 or Article 3 (commencing with Section 25505) of Chapter 2 of Division 5.

(e) The person is 18 years of age or over and is not in a class of persons prohibited from possessing firearms by virtue of Chapter 2 (commencing with Section 29800) or Chapter 3 (commencing with Section 29900) of Division 9 of this code or Section 8100 or 8103 of the Welfare and Institutions Code.

I can't shoot a standard AR in a match in my home state of NY
CA residents can't in their home state.
I CAN stop in Nevada, assemble a standard AR, take it into CA and shoot a match.

What kind of organization allows their residents LESS rights than non-residents??
A prison?
An asylum?

What does that tell you about the people "RUNNING " the state? The liberals have no rhyme or reason. To me they are the crazy ones that live in a screwed up world and screw it up for everyone else..

And for you folks that Don't already Know, there is NO gravity in California. It just SUCKS!!
And there is not, and never will be enough conservatives in California to change the political picture. The folks that are getting everything for free, don't want to give up a good thing, no matter what.

And one thing I might ad is, if you bring your Assault rifle into California and plan on spending the night, better plan on taking it to bed with you.;)
No telling what "legal issues" you'll have to deal with if it should get stolen.:eek::mad:
Lets see, California, attending a "shooting match", out of state license plates in Motel parking lot? Get a KING SIZE bed for the extra room.;)
