And one thing I might ad is, if you bring your Assault rifle into California and plan on spending the night, better plan on taking it to bed with you.
No telling what "legal issues" you'll have to deal with if it should get stolen.
Lets see, California, attending a "shooting match", out of state license plates in Motel parking lot? Get a KING SIZE bed for the extra room.

And how much will the legal fees be trying to get out of the jam youll be in when the local lawman pulls you over carrying an illegal assault rifle that you cant even own to a competition with a waiver to take it there?

So far, amazingly, the CA DOJ has not considered separated uppers and lowers to be considered Constructive Possesion. BUT we have a massively loony new completely anti gun governor coming in and this could change at any time.. I'm not an attorney and this ain't legal advice. Read up on CA law and proceed at your own risk.
