6BR verses 6 Creedmore

Very interesting comments on my original question. The reason I asked it's coming up on re-barrel time and I was considering going from the 6BR to the 6 Creedmoor for Ground Hog Matches out to 600 yards. I think I'll stick with the BR and 105 VLD's rather than going to the added expense of new dies, brass, reamer, bullets etc. I had considered a 7 twist Creedmoor and the new Sierra 110 BTHP but for me the trade offs outweigh the gains.
Thanks to all who responded.

Which is your favorite so far, 6x47, 6 Dasher, 6BRA, 6BR?

Kevin sure does good with his Dasher but a while back he sent me the 6BRA links. Is your group, over there Colorado way, changing over to BRA ???

I'm shooting 6x47 still because the barrel is doing well but I might switch over this summer to something smaller.
I ran the Dasher last season with great results. It can be a little fickle though. Kevin had his ninth and tenth Dashers spun up for this year, he is a Dasher kinda guy :) I almost went down the BRA rabbit hole, I was so very close, but pulled the pug at the last minute. I think we have 3 BRA's out now, still getting warmed up and broken in. I went backward to 6BR for local matches, Raton and will use the Dasher for big matches. It was sooooooo easy! Just screwed it back on and guessed at a load, with beat up brass and pow. Took 4th last month against 7SAUM, 7Mag, 260ai. Love that stubby little cartridge.

You are pretty dialed in with 6x47 for sure. There is so much to be said for that. If you do come to Raton, we have a 3000fps speed limit now

The barrel life is the overwhelming factor with 6 Creedmoor in my opinion. I think you made the right choice. Go Team 6BR!

I'm always interested in what you guys do over there, good info!

That's crazy Kevin shoots that much! It'll be embarrassing for me when I come to Raton next time, LOL. I've really slowed down going to the local competitions. I don't think I'm averaging 50 rounds total a month.

Thanks for the heads up on the speed limit too.

Hey man, good shooting with that little 6 against those big guns!

Although I have no experience with the 6 Creedmoor, I have shot the 6.5 Creedmoor, the 6 XC, the 6 Br, the 6 Dasher and am now shooting the 6 Brai. Of these I have had more success with the Dasher. One reason is that I have shot it more than the rest, but it is an easy cartridge with which to obtain accuracy at 600 yards. The 6 Brai is still a work in progress and it may equal or exceed the Dasher, but I haven't seen that .....yet. Good shooting, James

One cartridge I haven't seen mentioned in this thread is the 6Grinch, which is a Dasherized 6 Grendel. Several guys I have a lot of respect for, that are 600 and 1k shooters, shoot them and say they are much easier to get on tune and stay there than the BR variant's are. Do a search on this cartridge and read up on it. I've been fooling around with this cartridge in an AR (called a Fat Rat) and a straight 6Grendel shooting 80grainers for short range BR. I can't say I truly understand either cartridge yet, meaning keeping them on tune in a broad set of atmospheric conditions, but working on it.

My opinion is that you won't be able to tell much difference in accuracy when shot out of an AR for any of these Grendel based cartridges.

Because part of the reason is benchrest rifles are set up to track as straight back as possible, have 1-2 oz triggers, $$$$ in rests, a faster lock time, on and on, etc, etc.

I'm just pointing out that although the AR is likely the most accurate semi auto made the more accurate ones won't generally shoot half as good as a benchrest rifle.

These Grendel based cartridges are being shot in BR rifles right now with some success.

With each of these different 6mm BR type chambers, are there options to reform your brass? Can I use my brass from one barrel to another barrel with a slightly different chamber? Example, all my brass is now 6 Dasher. Can I fire my current Dasher Brass in a similar 6XC chambered barrel?....just asking. If yes, what are the pro’s and con’s?

No. The 6XC is not a BR based cartridge. Way different.

At Raton and the 3000 fps limit, is this for all calibers and all bullet weights? this kind of stacks the deck in favor of a a big bore mag. with heavy bullets. jim

Are you referring to the SRM?

It's a catch 22 because seeing your hits or misses and adjusting the hold off for wind is very important. Thus favoring the lighter recoiling cartridges which provide less rifle upset.

There was/is a sect of friends that shoot this match that were changing over to 6mm Dasher. One guy that I shot with who won the match that day was shooting a Dasher. His comment to me was he'd made more hits on the edges/tips of the diamonds and circles because his Dasher shot smaller vertical than his previous chambering.

At the Raton Sporting Rifle Match, 6mm generally rules the roost (even if Chuck makes fun of our girly calibers). Last year 1st place was won with 7SAUM once or twice. These were on days with spicy wind, but it was more the guys behind the gun, than the caliber. 6.5mm is popular and effective. 308 gets a "special" category due to being a turd in the wind. There really is no ballistic advantage to heavy calibers there. Shootability, spotting your impacts and misses is far more important than the slight wind advantage you would gain. This is a purely a field match and there are no wind flags, sighters or makeup shots. You get one poke, hit or miss. You couldn't get me to shoot a big-bore down there. I never shot my SAUM there either. I prefer shooting my 6BR because it holds vertical well and I'm never more than a 1/10th (maybe 2/10th) difference on wind. All calibers and shooters are welcome if they abide the rules.

The SRM is truly the best match around, great people, great scenery, great fun. Show up and shoot with what you got; someone will always be there to help you if you need anything.

I have a 6br and a 6.5x55AI. Ballistics favor the 6.5 bullets by a wide margin at distances over 600yds in drift and drop over 6mm bullets. In time new records will be set by very skilled shooters, the debate will continue etc, etc. Barrel life is much in favor of the 6br along with lower recoil.
