Review my reviews?

I thought I would try my hand at reviewing products.

I’m not a professional reviewer by any stretch of the imagination, and I don’t have any ties to any manufacturers - I’m just looking to pass on my honest experience of the various pieces of equipment that I’ve used over the last 37 years, and some of the techniques I’ve tried. Hopefully someone might find it helpful?

I’ve chosen Facebook as a platform initially, purely because it was the path of least resistance initially. I’m open to suggestions, if there are alternative platforms you might favour.

I’d be interested to hear what you guys think of my efforts so far.

How do my reviews compare to the sort of reviews you guys normally like to read? Does a good photo speak 1,000 words etc. Are there any pieces of kit you’d particularly like to see reviewed etc.?

Many thanks in advance for your help,

tell us about yourself first, where you from, occupation, hobbies, age......

So I’m from the UK, I’m a graphic designer (print), hobbies... I’m only really interested in shooting to be honest, and I’m 45 (where did the last 15 years go?).

OK, that’s interesting.

So would you guys tend to have a list of favourite websites that you would check regularly, or would you use a search engine to find a specific piece of kit, or would you purely read threads in this forum?

May I suggest posting videos to YouTube and then publish the links here or on FB or any other social media platform. They will play directly in the thread on this site and may get more views especially with us older guys :)

There's this site in particular alot of shooters like. I think it's called.......
ACCURATE SHOOTER. COM
FWIW, they can be a tough crowd.
But good folks all around.

It would seem that Facebook is perhaps more popular amongst shooters aged 40-60+ in the UK, where enthusiasts regularly use it to share items of interest and keep abreast of shoots/competitions etc.

On Facebook, I like that I can see which of my posts are the most popular - so for instance I wrote a quick review of the Tier One Monomount which was viewed by 744 people in the UK within 72hrs (which seems OK given the size of the UK shooting scene) however my review of the Swarovski X5 & X5i scopes, which involved £5,200 worth of glass and took an entire season to prepare, was only viewed by 12 people within 72hrs.

Having that information - whilst a little soul destroying - is valuable because at least I know the true nature of the beast. It’s often hard to glean that type of feedback from the forums, and we’ve all seen threads on some of the forums which started with the best of intentions before spiralling into a slagging match.

The boss needs help with this site. The main facebookers are younger, factory ammo blasting creedmoor talkers. Most here and actually buying the products are not into that type stuff. Havent you seen the arguments when a company quits sending out paper catalogs?

And the people buying $5000+ worth of glass dont care much for facebook as youve seen. Thats the crowd looking for reviews on tactical flashlights and such as youve seen.
