I wonder how may people double checked there chamber today? I sure did. Scary!!!
Wanted to follow up and report that Savage polished up the chamber and will be shipping it back free of charge. Much appreciated Savage.
Ive seen winchesters do it. They blue the barrel then for whatever reason they polish the chamber. That makes it loose then the repolish makes it even worseWas the bore inspected as well?
Strikes me as odd that the chamber would corrode like that but the bore remain unscathed . . . .![]()

Bore Tech Eliminator™ Bore Cleaner Use Instructions
UNLOAD FIREARM
1) Wet 3 to 4 Bore Tech X Count patches with Eliminator Bore Cleaner and individually push through bore to remove loose fouling. Only push patches through the bore in ONE direction.
2) Next, make 10 to 15 passes with a tight fitting Bore Tech Proof-Positive Nylon brush saturated with Eliminator.
3) Then repeat Step 1 and let Eliminator soak for 3 to 5 minutes. For badly fouled rifles, extended soak times may be needed.
4) Finally, push dry patches through the bore until they come out clean.
5) Repeat above steps if necessary.
6) Before storing firearm, dampen a patch with Eliminator and push through bore. This will protect against rust/corrosion for up to 2 weeks under normal storage conditions.
7) For extended storage or in adverse conditions apply Bore Tech Friction Guard XP Gun Oil.
8) Before using firearm, always run a dry patch through the bore. This will remove any residue and ensure against obstructions.
Dont matter what that says its bad stuff. Took the coating off a dewey and bore tech rod of mine before i could stop it, busted the ferrule on the end of another dewey and rusted a jewell trigger up so bad it couldnt be saved on another one that came to me. Itll take paint off almost instantly which is weird because it feels like soap
WOW, I had no clue? I just ordered some of it after trying it, because it worked well. Guess I will be using it sparingly. I have been using Wipeout for a couple of years and had tried the Bore Tech after cleaning several times with Wipeout and the Bore Tech still took out more Copper ( I had thought the Wipe Out was doing a good job). I have been cleaning Stainless Barrels.
WOW, Double WOW!
Dusty, Thanks
your cleaning and storage needs to be re-assessed
Smells good too.I run a mop with Marvel Mystery Oil through the bore.
What’s this largish chamber you speak of? If I take the rifle out and it shoots/functions fine, am I in the clear or are there other possible problems I would not be aware of? I just want the damn thing to function as it should.I hope we don't see a thread on a largish chamber or hard extraction, marks on the brass etc.
The OP should feel very fortunate they did anything. Hope it works out for the best.
He is giving you the doomsday report ... he said, to take the rust out they had to take a little steel ... so possible oversized chamber . In reality you probably do not have a thing to worry about,I doubt Savage shipped you a rifle that is dangerous. What’s this largish chamber you speak of?

And yes, I feel very fortunate Savage fixed this problem for me given they probably didn’t have anything to do with the rust. That’s part of the reason for my follow up post. Savage has gone above and beyond in taking care of this and should be recognized for it.
Not a dooms day report, I just see where it could head too. You caused what ever the rust issue was. Yet you thought Savage should fix it. So now that they probably did no more than run a bronze brush into it and clean it out, there could be some small issue, maybe, but I doubt it.I just want the damn thing to function as it should.
