Best repeater action for quick bolt manipulation?

Did your take time to smooth up?
Yep, you really should break it in a little. I would clean it, lube the bolt with tetra grease and cycle away while watching you favorite shows. I will break in. You will also get the muscle memory on it. Mine keeps getting smoother, 2nd, 3rd, 4th barrel, etc.

I just got my first ever custom action, a TL3. I'm using m5 bottom metal and it feeds 6.5 creed perfect but, it sure is bindy. With or without ammo you can not cycle it quickly. Also my first SS action. Did your take time to smooth up? Mike

Absolutely not. Perfectly smooth from the word go. Absolutely perfect. Are you by chance using a Bix N Andy? They require a special sear.
Is it cerakoted?

I can’t inagine really, given the number of TL3s that I’ve owned, fired or seen at the range, how I’ve not heard of not one tiny issue in the real world?

I get that there is a place for BATs and Bordens and the like, but for the intended purpose, that TL3 can take a LONG nap before anyone catches up. Although, they may want to sleep with one eye open because that new Deviant Elite Tactical is pretty slick, pun intended.

From very early on, it was discovered that you shouldn’t cerakote both the bolt and receiver interior without some serious prep work. My bolts were all left naked, for that reason.

Super interesting, did you call them? I don’t feel like my smith would let one leave that wasn’t perfectly smooth, since it has become the norm for them to function so well.

Watch a video of Brandon Green shooting rapid fire stages with his tubb gun and you'll be amazed
If i couldn't find a tubb gun I'd do a sako 75 or 85 or a tikka
Next would be a 700 in an elisio chassis and have the bolt jeweled or shot peened.
That said , I have an old 1903a3 that has been cycled so much that it feels like its on bearings, still shoots good too and will clean the rapid fire stages if I do my part

I had a TL3 that I deemed was far from smooth, I felt my bolt got hung up on the mechanical ejector, it was on the back stroke where I felt it. If you ran your thumb on the back of the bolt things went fine, the outside of the action was cerakoted, the bolt body and raceways were bare. The NP3 coating on the bolt lugs was a joke.
I sold and bought another Impact, never looking back.

Going to handle a fn spr tomorrow. I’m excited to try out the action but the stock is also very similar to the manners I was going to order so it could be a win win.

There were multiple reasons the Winchester Model 70s ruled the roost for match rifle shooting in the old days of NRA Highpower. The bolts were quick and smooth to operate and with the feedcone cut into the breech face no bobbles on the feed either. The Mausers and Remingtons weren’t smooth enough. The Tikka, Blaser and others are smooth but are the ergonomics good?

+ 1

They sold the fn spr before I got there. I did handle several used rifles using the model 70 action. One seemed nice the others hung up a bit on whatever the piece is on the back left of the action. Bolt stop maybe.

Just switched to an Impact action running 6br. I was really impressed the first time I put it on a barricade and manipulated the bolt, way smoother and easier to stay on target than anything else I have handled.

I've got a bunch of custom action makers pissed at me because I've never encountered a custom SS action that doesn't bind horribly.

So far I believe nothing I've read here re customs.

Meloniting helps.

Firesuit on

I have to agree with Al on this 100%. Every action I've tried that has tight bolt clearance will bind when you try to push the bolt forward. There are three actions that I have used or seen used in across the course shooting (rapid fire) that work well and those are the Tubb 2000, Remington 700 and Winchester 70 push feed. The custom actions will work if you are lined up perfectly when you push the bolt forward, but I've never seen anybody stay with one for more than a year. Just not worth the additional expense.

Try the Tikka T3. Very slick. Good OEM trigger. Bix-n-Andy available if you need it.

I got out with my fn spr “pre 64 style Winchester 70”. While I do like the action compared to most I don’t think it’s on the same level as the sako trg. if you only have one rifle and get familiar with it I’m sure it could be cycled really fast and smooth but to me it’s really not even close. What is nice about the fn spr is how easily it picks up rounds from the magazine. Cycling the bolt with an empty mag feels exactly the same as when it’s picking up a cartridge. Several times I thought I didn’t pick one up but it did. The trg you can feel added resistance while it pulls a round out of the mag.

My buddies defiance was really nice. My only issue with it, is even though it’s insanely slick is the bolt lift is heavy due to the extractor. That’s the only thing I noticed. I’m poor and only use trued Rem 700s. They are incredibly slick once trued and greased up.
