Remage barrel rechamber?

The answer to my question may take more money than the barrel is worth, and if so, I will forego the project.

I have a 28” bull, 6mm 1:8 twist CBI barrel that has a rough chamber and tenon face. Does anyone know of a smith that would set it back, chamber it in 6BR, and thread it to go on a Remington 700?

It shoots very well, but the brass is sticky to extract due to the marks in the case portion of the chamber and the brass has the indentions on the case of course. Not sure the cause and all is well on mine and the seller’s end.

Donate it?
Pay to have it fixed?
Sell it as a solar eclipse viewer?
Forge knives out of it?

Thanks.

It'll cost you more than it's worth , but if you could do the work yourself it has value . So , sell it for what you can and move on .
Very few smiths would touch it unless you have a very good account ( read years of service ) with him . I wouldn't suggest a non insured , non licensed hobby smith . having your head 2" from a 50,000 pound explosion isn't to be taken lightly

Try sending Hoz53 a PM. He needs barrels to practice his new machining hobby. He might even give you something for it.:)
It’s 50/50 that you’ll find a smith willing to chance buggering a reamer on it.

I wouldn’t waste money on that barrel. Get a new barrel blank and have chambered for what you want.

I don't understand the advice to scrap the barrel. Assuming it has some life left in it,why not cut that chamber off then have it rechamberd and rethreaded ?. At 28 inches it is plenty long to do it. A bull barrel should have plenty of meat to be safe.I have had several barrels "set back" and got some life out of them.

It’s not entirely clear if it’s a savage barrel he wants to chamber to a remage or what. Also if it cost 2 or 300 to get it rechambered you can buy a new drop in for 350 or so —-is it worth the chance on a used barrel

My apologies for not being clear.

It has Remington 700 tenon threads.
I’d like it to stay threaded for Remington 700 if completed.
It has room to be set back and rechambered.
It is chambered in 6BR currently.
The case portion of chamber is gouged.
The tenon face has some marring.
It actually shoots good, but not as good as my other 6BR rifles.

From what I’ve gathered this was caused by trying to fit the barrel to an action with go/no go gauges (obviously somehow incorrectly...). It did not come from CBI like this from what I understand.

I do not want to spend money on something that is not worth it, which is why I posed the question.

I did not pay a lot for it, so whatever the wisdom of those much more knowledgeable than I answered...well, that’s what I’d planned on heeding as I’m not a gunsmith nor a machinist.

Thanks to everyone who has responded, as each response has been helpful.

Have you tried to polish out the gouges?
What part of the fired case is marked from the gouge?

I have not tried any polish. Just above the rim area of the 6BR Case.

I don’t have any pics on my phone currently.

I would try to polish it out in that location. At this point, what do you have to lose? In that location, you should be able to feel the gouges with your little finger, assuming you have the barrel off.

Spend the $200 for a rechamber, The new chamber will take out you problems and even clean out the lead and any crackling in the early lands and groves

Call CBI and ask to speak to Josh. CBI is very responsive and has great customer service, I would be very surprised if they don't make it right for you.
