Brux barrels (pics added)

My Brux, my first, is absolute perfection. I use bore tech products and a nylon brush (probably not needed) and have had NO copper fouling at all to date. Will be ordering a custom barrel for another caliber soon.

This mirrors my first Brux as well. One of the very best barrels I have ever had the pleasure of owning. :D:D

I'm curious as to why you are concerned about the carbon deposites in the grooves. Is it affecting accuracy of the barrel or would you simply prefer the high cleanliness of the barrel. I have the same results as you but all my match barrels continue to be 1/4 moa barrels. I use the same Boretech/WipeOut regimen but tend not to clean so aggressively. When accuracy changes, I will finish-poilish with Iosso paste and accuracy falls back into place. I have also found, after the polishing, it requires more rounds to refowl the barrel. I follow the trend of leaving light residual copper and carbon in the barrel, specifically during match season. Be careful with a borescope, it can be your friend but don't let it become a nightmare obsession.

Now that's funny , just got the Lyman bore scope to see what's going on down inside in the barrel . Barrel looked great until I saw this wish bone looking gouge in the rifling half way down the barrel , at first it seemed it was about 1.5" long , well that night while in bed stairing at the ceiling thinking about the scratch it came to me how magnified the scope is . Next morning I checked it is one eighth of a inch. Still wish it wasn't there but no big deal . Rifle shoots great . Sometimes ignorenci is bliss . I'll move on to something else to drive me mad . Let's talk politics , kidding .

Maybe this won’t have effect? Before I got the bore scope I would have said barrel was spotless due to the clean patches coming out.
But then again I am shooting better now than I ever have. Quality of equipment I think.
May have chance to shoot some this weekend and my plans are to throw the eliminator to it right after shooting while still warm/hot. This was the advice I received from a very respected shooter, will update.

If the rifle is still shooting well does it matter if the bore is not spotless?

I can remember back in the old days when only gunsmiths had borescopes and people cleaned their barrel til it shot right. Those were the good ole days, no stress or sleepless nights

BBD43009-CBAB-4203-A91F-315B591F4D37.jpeg Well heck, worried about nothing. After 2 foulers shot 4 into .208” at 100 good enough for me. For now.
This is with zero development
6BR virgin lapua
H4895 29.2 grains
Fed. 205m
Berger 108 BT jammed .004”

Warning.... this load was a tad warm in this rifle... I will be moving down and working up like you supposed too.

Where I live most folks are good with hitting a pie plate 3 out of 5 shots at 200 the Friday before deer season.

I have used a Hawkeye Borescope for several years and for me it has reduced stress and sleepless nights. I also enjoy helping out my friends when they need something checked out with my borescope.

Exactly. I believe we are over thinking the carbon issue

I think a borescope is a tool, and like any other tool it must be used correctly.

I've never gone looking for trouble when a rifle shot well. But on several occasions the reason a barrel wouldn't shoot well became obvious with the borescope. I'd have never known what the cause was otherwise. And I like to know such things.

YMMV

I shoot LR-BR and for years it's been 20 rnds and clean to bare bones (Hawkeye) ..but the Brux (6mm) Needs to be dirty to shoot, I shoot 5-6 shots Fri. night to make sure I'm sighted in properly, then 8 sighters and ten record, don't clean..Sun. repeat of Sat., it usually shoots better on Sun....the No cleaning between relays is kinda nice. Then ten strokes with bronze brush with Bore Tech C-4, two patches too push out the crap, then 1 offset patch caked with C-4..when I get home (5 hrs.), couple dry patches and then soak it over night with B/T Eliminator..Done!

Maybe that’s what it is? Brux barrels don’t need to be cleaned that often? I am still learning. I am happy with the groups I am getting now. I am going to have to learn each barrel individually. One thing the borescope did show me, is the apparent reason a .243 ruger WILL NOT shoot, the barrel has chatter marks down about midway. Bad chatter marks. I will post them the next time I get it out. It’s sad, as I payed premium money for this rifle fire my sons birthday many years ago.

I only own one Brux barrel, a 6mm X1:8 and it is the worst copper fouler, no second worst copper fouler I have owned. It copper coated from day one even with the clean after each shot break in. And the accuracy after break in was only mediocre. That being stated it wont shoot until its had about 15 rounds put thru it then it groups well. Into the 1.5" range at 600. The one opportunity I shot at 1K it popped the claybirds with almost every shot. I ve run strings up to about 70 or 80 rounds with no observed change in accuracy. But I still clean it then, just because, makes me wonder if I doing wrong thing. Tempermental I guess.

is it just me or are the Brux barrels harder to clean than say.....Krieger?
I have 4 of these and they seem to keep a black carbon down in the grooves. May just be my cleaning method but I need advice. Been using eliminator and/or wipe out with some success but not as clean as I would like it. Also using Iosso nylon brushes and proshot bronze brushes.
Have used JB paste but the grooves seem deeper than the brush will get to? It’s 6BR. 8T

Try leaving the bore cleaner in over night. Barrel down on a paper towel so it doesn't get in the action. With any cleaning solvent it is in the bore a very short time. Once in a while I use leave Lucas fuel injector cleaner in the bore overnight. It's proven to be the best fuel additive for removing deposits from fuel injectors.
