Stolen rifles

Everyone,

Last night I had two rifles stolen out of my car in the Indianapolis area. Both were savage benchrest 6br. I got into town late from a match and completely forgot to bring them inside the hotel.

One had the factory barrel off of it and had a rifle basix trigger.

The other had a shilen barrel, rifle basix trigger and a Sightron 10-50. I am from out of town and am working on getting the serial numbers. This probably won’t help but it’s worth the post.

Also taken was all my other match stuff mine my rest. Unfortunately my seb joy stick was in my bag.

Thanks everyone

Sorry to hear this. This should serve as a warning for everyone. Never leave valuable items in your vehicle.

Correct, people can be in a Hurry, tired and forgetful. Take your time and make sure you don’t set yourself up for scenarios like this.

It’s a loss for sure, being 26 and just getting into the sport and getting my two match guns takes me back to square one but a Lesson has been learned here. Hopefully my insurance will help if not there will be a liquidation sale on here to help find a new rifle.

Thanks for the post everyone

A worthless thief is going to steal, no matter where it is. I had a bench gun stole from an IBS 1000 yard match a few years back. Get the serial numbers turned in to the police, that's about all you can do. (And unfortunately, don't expect a call back :()

thieves are the scum of the earth when they are caught they should have both of their hands chopped off

Protect yourself and report them to the local PD as stolen firearms.

Yeah, no B.S. If your luck is like mine the thief will take them to some communist liberal democrat run city {of which there is no shortage!!} and break the law. Then the libtards will somehow manage to get one of their judges to lock you up for "allowing the guns to be stolen" and pin a medal on the thief!!!!!

Right, I don’t expect any calls. But on a positive note they only stole my seb mini joy stick and left the rest. Things could always be worse

Cory: Sorry for your loss. The thieves probably just grabbed the cases out of your car and didn't realize what they had until they opened them up......a LONG, HEAVY, SS Rifle isn't going to be worth much on the street or likely used to commit a crime......especially in 6BR. Unless they stole ammo too, its not like you can go to the local gun store or Walmart and buy ammo. Not that it helps you, but they have likely been ditched somewhere and won't surface again.....especially the one with no barrel. Hope you get treated fairly by your Auto or Home Insurance Co.

Get the serial numbers to the police, they get put into a national database. I had 9 handguns stolen from the house back in 1986. Over the years 2 have found their way home by police departments running serial numbers.

I know, not much consolation, but it is a pleasant surprise when you get that phone call years later.

On the other hand, having been a Deputy Sheriff in Indianapolis, I know the pawn detail there is very aggressive in locating stolen property. When firearms are involved it becomes even more so. You may never see them again, but I can guarantee it won't be for lack of trying on the Indy PD's side of the coin. SO and PD combined sometime back.

Sorry this happened to you. I’m going to my insurance agent this week to insure my rifles.
Just remember when it comes to Insurance. They won't cover a thing if you are negligent. Items were secured? Police report on file? Value of the firearms is?
