Stolen Rifle alert… 94 Marlin 357

Maybe this is a Texas thing and there is still hope. ;)

I just got off the phone from a Gentleman in Midland Texas, who I sent a payment to the first week of January.
Sent the second, replacement payment about 3 weeks later. First payment showed up, post marked Jan 6, this morning:rolleyes:.

I would not be at all surprised if it suddenly shows up out of thin air in tracking at some point. USPS had mine but got missed scanning in transit through a hub and stalled for two months. Doesn’t change anything as you are still having to go through the PITA motions of filing the claim and bugging the postmaster. Sure hope it shows up for your sake. My JM .357 CB is easily one of the most enjoyable firearms I own. Good luck!

i wonder you could put an apple air tag inside the firearm somewhere and track it if it dosent show up where it should. ??? of course let the firearm Recipient know where their tag is.

I've heard there are GPS units available for shipping high value items. I wonder if they're small enough to sneak into the chamber so it works even if the rifle is liberated from it's package.

as long s the radio frequency signals could get through the metal and the gun didn't act like a Faraday cage. With wooden stock, maybe placed inside a recess in the stock?

I looked at them years ago and they were pretty big. These days, I see little tags that go on dog collars. I was thinking of a pocket cut under the butt pad for them in my guns.

Apple tracker is blue tooth(800' range), any iphone would be able to detect the tag which may or may not be a good thing. I wonder how much ATF related items have been stolen from the rail cars in California.
More than 80 is what has been reported.... Handguns at that, we have to ship overnight, why were they on a train?

i’d think an air tag may go in the butt stock or maybe paint over it and attach it to a sling and hide it in plain sight. also a lot of crooks are not the smartest so they may not know how the air tag works and may not know what is popping up on their i phone.

An air tag linked to your phone starts beeping and alerts anyone with an iphone around it there is a tracking tag around. It keeps people from tossing them in their wives car to see which boyfriend she is going to see. They make very small gps tracking systems for utv use. My local polaris dealer puts them on every utv they sell that polaris finances. They dont tell the customer. When a buddy called them to report his stolen they said no problem we will alert the police to its location (they wouldnt tell him where it was of course). Within a few hours it was back at his house and he still hasnt found the tracking device.
gotta pay the cellular bill on them though
