stolen guns

i have a question, been thinking as i have had a rifle stolen in UPS shipment back to me from custom smith work. also two stolen from a car. report them and forget it nothing ever shows up.

is there a reason to have a heading blog here where we can list guns stolen? seems we all trade, see guns at shows, etc. and possible with things going the way they are politicly there may be more stolen in the future.

What do you think.

I've seen some of those kinds of blog services come and go and I understand that they're not very effective because, unless someone actively pursues checking serial numbers on hundreds of guns at gun shows the number of recovered guns using those kinds of systems don't produce results.
I spent 30 years in law enforcement. IMO, it's better to file your report with law enforcement and rely on their stolen property systems (NCIC, FBI, state and local) to recover what they can. I know that a lot of gun owners are not keen on the idea of using FFL dealers for transferring firearms but stolen guns are usually transferred without the help of an FFL transfer agent so the stolen guns take years to surface; oftentimes never.

Lapua40X is correct. I have one listed with NCIC now. It may be awhile, but the fellow with my rifle is known to me, the Dodge City PD, and the Kansas City office of the BATFE. His name is James C. Linthicum. I believe he is a jr or #2. His father has a ranch in Welch, Okla. He has taken a lot of folks money and you can do a search on his name on the internet. Jim62 as he is known on the internet has been active on the Knife forums, selling wood for grips. A felony warrant is being issued for him. It may take some time, but one day they will tap him on the shoulder and he will be gone.

YOUR COMMENTS ARE APPRECIATED,
Consider, it does not take a check of serial # to be supprised by a 660/custom stk/hart fluted/7x08ai chamber to think wow , this for sale,

custom guns are the topic of this forum, and they are very recognisable.

still 2 years and no government dept response on this one and 6 years on 2 others.
how about a vz24 6.5-06 in a fagen stk 20 years ago c.w.Olson smith

Have you ever heard of a thing with stolen cars?
I think they call it a "Chop Shop",,?
It's where the entire car isn't sold,, It's sold in parts,, :-\

The same would/could be with custom guns,, :'(

I know there is a big problem in New York State, no funding for the NYS Police Gun Invest.. This leads to no lists or BCI to even go to the Gun Shops and let anyone know that there has been any stolen guns. The only break they get is when some tweaker rolls on a buddy or themselfs and gives up the fact they did a robbery where a gun was stolen. Happened to me, I bought a 10-22 Ruger through a local Gun Shop, did Form 4473, NICS Check, paid him and took it home. 4 months later a NYS BCI I know shows up at my door with bad news, he states the .22 Ruger I bought was stolen and he was there to collect it. I asked when was it stolen, he said in the winter/spring of 2010 along with 17 others all from one house, it's been an ongoing robbery case, just haven't had any breaks until the meth lab bust last month.

Good luck with your search,

There are "web sites" that list stolen firearms, some are States Official Websites, others are not......
