Would you like to see smaller f open targets?

I don't think a whole sport should be changed for a small subset of shooters shooting abmormally high scores at a small subset of ranges on a small subset of days.

When more than 20% of F-Open scores reported to the NRA for a whole year are higher than 600-30X (nationwide) at a given distance, then perhaps smaller targets at that distance would be worthy of consideration.

600-45x is not something to write home about at 600 yards. I've personally witnessed a 200-24x. The x ring gets shredded by the top few guys. The solution is really to shoot smaller relays - 10 shots, and use a benchrest target.
But if it looks like benchrest and quacks like benchrest, it's kind of benchrest.

I have not shot at as many different ranges as many on this board, but 600 - 45X is still fairly rare from the scores I have seen. The X ring does get shot out by the end of a day that has 3 relays with 4 matches, but that is what helps everyone up their game. 7 years ago when I started, a two day ag (state or regional level of competition) for 7 matches at 600 yards would be won with a 1390 - mid 50 X count. With the number of high master competitors that show up at our matches today, that doesn't get you into the top 10. What has happened is that we have all been forced to get better if we want to be competitive.

In regards to being BR: some equipment may be similar, but there are major differences between sitting on your butt for 10 shots vs. laying on your belly for 20 shots with a target pull after every shot. From what I have witnessed in matches where BR guys have tried F-open, their first couple of matches may go well, but by match 3&4 some of the fatigue from supporting yourself and other variables come into play. I support what Larry says about a delay on electronic targets of 5-7 seconds.

It depends on what range you shoot at - some are easier than others, especially when shooting ballistic lazers. 600s are shot almost every match at my home range. I can't do it, but I was talking about the top 4 or 5 guys who show up regularly. Any given day there's likely to be at least one 600. Sometimes as many as 3. As I said, the targets work fine for the majority of Open shooters, and probably all TR shooters. At the top of mid range Open? Not so much.

It doesn't matter if you lose by x count, by 10's, by 9's, or by decimal points. It's just a number. You still lost. Conversely, it doesn't matter if you win by any of those, either. You still won.

We have a tie breaker system, Creedmoor rule. As long as ties can be broken by existing rules, and targets can be scored, changing the rules at this point is just juggling numbers and creating additional complexity at matches.

In Australia we used to have a more difficult target (it was a 10 ring target with a 1/2 moa 10 ring no X, highest possible score was 100), FO nearly died here due to a few factors, one being a different target (cost and squading) and the other it was difficult for new shooters which in turn made it difficult to grow the class. Until you have a big number of shoot off's like at the 1st FCWC where 36 shooters shot off for a range, I'd leave it as it is.

Shoot more ranges. Until then, any conjectures can’t be made. Your range is a tunnel range plain and simple. I know your range. I used to belong to it. None of you easternern nebraskans want to come out to west nebraska to shoot because your egos would be crushed.

ENGC is not a wind tunnel any more, although in fairness I feel certain the wind conditions at Alliance are still much tougher. Nonetheless, you're talking shit for no good reason other than to stir the pot, just like you always do. So I guess we can only assume you won every single match in which you competed at ENGC by a large margin since it was so easy. Just like you win all the matches at Alliance. No? Why not? Maybe, just maybe, your fellow shooters in the eastern part of the state simply don't feel like driving almost 7 hours every month to shoot in a 1000 yd club match. Maybe they also feel like your "sportsmanship" is representative of what they would experience if they did make the trip.

Just like it is not worth driving 7 hours to just pull the trigger and not read the wind. It is a wind tunnel. I shoot in a lot of places.

There is no need to reduce the target dimensions. All they need to do is outlaw the use of front rests, rear bags, and bipods and all is right with the world again.

You can change the targets, the rests, time limits etc. Changing any or all of this will only change the scores. It will not change the winners.
