6BR 14 TWIST

Top left the out bullet was pulled with a collect puller and reused. 2nd. Target my fault. Cannot hold the rifle perfectly still and bad trigger control.

The GH hunting was great 1970-1985. Rem 700 BDL purchased 1969, glass bedded by Nelson Berger, Jewell trigger, 14 twist Kreiger 6BR barrel. 15X Unertl scope purchased about 1975. 4100 shots down the tube. I aim for the center of the square, top of the bull 275 yd. zero.

All 5 groups 33.3 gr 8208. About 3580 fps. 1st 4 groups all 58 Vmax various seating depths. Group 5 60 gr Sierra Varminter.

I have a BR barrel that shoots those 60gr. Sierras just like that. A bunch of WW748 at 3600 WILL splatter p-dogs.

There is very little discussion of slow twist 6BR on here for some reason. I just got a Kreiger 13.5 barrel and chambered it for a zero FB. Here is a work up for LT 32 and 4 thou jam. I never hit pressure. I think there is a node at 33.5 and should be right at 4000 FPS.

What wt. bullet. 100 fps jump from 32.6 to 32.9 grs powder? I never pushed the limits but I get hard bolt lift any where near your fps. The fastest I ever shot a bullet (don't remember if it was 58 or 55 gr) was 3620. I use a lot of 8208 and Varget once in a while. Tried AD 2230 recently and didn't get real high speeds. Seldom shoot over 350 yrds so speed isn't real important. I don't think 22-250 and Swift owners think you can get that speed from a tiny case. Nice shooting and reloading. Nice to see your info.

55 grain Varmageddon at 4 thou past touch and my bullets are moly'd. Chamber is zero freebore.

Thank you so much :)

I am always amazed how accurate those 60gr Sierra bullets are considering their price. They almost seem like the poor man's benchrest bullet.

Tried to buy more flat base 60 gr Sierra Varminter bullets. None existent in the stores. Back order on the Sierra website. Very bad BC. Don't think I want to shoot much past 300 yrds. The 58 VMax a much better BC, not as accurate but good enough.

Started using LT-32 in my new Bartlein 14 twist 6BR barrel, .045" freebore.. results so far look very promising for the 68 gr class of bullets.. I was advised to prioritize this powder by some of the folks on this thread. ;)

want to add another shout out to Lee Gardner Precision who chambered and installed this barrel. his work continues to be top drawer!!

Getting ready to order a Criterion for a LRPV. Looking really hard at a 1-14 for 55-60 grain bullets.

Depends on the distance you want to shoot and accuracy you want. Someone out there should know a lot more than me. My 14 twist is fine for 55-70. 70 gr starts getting harder to get a real good load but it's still under .5". Won't shoot 75 gr at all. A 13 twist may cover 55-75 gr better. Some PPC shooters use a 13.5 twist. Can someone on the website comment on 12 twist for 55-80 gr bullets. I think the proper twist depends on the bearing length not just weight.

The Berger manual says 13 or faster for 65-68 but I think comp shooters use 13.5 or 14. No-one uses 13.

From the Berger reloading manual.
60 gr14 twist or faster
65-68 gr 13 twist or faster
69 gr 12 twist or faster
80 gr 12 twist or faster.
88 gr 10 twist or faster
105 gr 8 twist or faster
