well Bart Sauter is at it again- Cool Acres results

Bart, you are missing the point, I'm speaking from a 600 range that uses birds on the bank in front of pull targets .... you can't do it, If you can't see the hit you are dead in the water. The places you shoot use plates .. right?.... jim

No!!!! I’ve been to matches that use only clays. But if you can’t see your hits no one can. So the relays Don’t shoot. Just like at the 1000 yard Nationals no one could see where they were hitting so the match was delayed.

i agree it is a stupid rule. you drive 1500 miles for a match, to shoot at an unknown range, have one shot blown off and you are done for the entire match, penalties keep you in the game, dq does not.

look at a foot ball game, step out of bounds, and you are dq'd...no one would call that fair; i avoid your matches like the plaque for that one reason.

Jason,

They still wouldn’t win but give them a healthy penalty instead of killing them. I’ve had a lot of shooters say it’s a stupid rule. 15 or more got blown off the target at St. Louis at least they could complete against themselves.

So if you can't see the hits some of the time how would it be better or faster to change? When you have somebody with a spotting scope that can see the hits can get you zeroed in doing the sight in period. Why change? to make it like short range? That isn't true about if you can't se the hits no one can, I guess we will all have to shoot big guns then..... jim

#1) We've already ask for 6 matches in 2013 I think. Don't qoute me on the year. And they had to administer oxygen to some people over that.

#2) Sprinkles are for winners! If you DQ you don't get sprinkles. It should be a learning lesson and even better you get to come back and try again. and yes I have DQ'd. And there is no rule that states you have to stop shooting. Most clubs have a small group pot or closes to the X that you can still shoot for. You just don't get sprinkles at the end. Its the love of the sport and the competitive drive that should have brought you to the match.

#3) This is straight off the pages of score shooting. yes I have attended score matches and yes this is how its done.

I think I can speak for some not all that this game we love and yes addicted too has a few flaws. Such as bench rotation and non-IBS shooters....ect. There are other things that need attention on the IBS long range side of it but that's for another day. But for the most part we are happy. If the way the matches are now is in such disarray then I'm sure there is a discipline out there for you. If not maybe its time for you and IBS to team up start a new one. I encourage all to support the discipline that you have chose to participate in. Not want to change everything about it in one year. There were many shooters before and I hope many to come. But now is not the time to do our dead level best to keep controversy stirred up constantly. If drama is what you want and desire then watch TV there 400 channels of it. There's no room for it in the shooting sport. Im done.

Thank you Chris

this attitude is why the sport is so small. "my way or the highway". close minded just like the ibs.

Good post!

1. 6 matches makes sense! Maybe that’s one for next year! With some new blood on the long range committee they won’t need as much oxygen this time.

2. The Dq for a non safety issue makes no sense. It has run off several New Shooters who haven’t had time to figure out if they love it yet (My Kid included). It does nothing to add to the sport. It’s just a throwback rule that was inherited from 1000 yard shooting. If you win you get sprinkles anyway! Sprinkles are for winners. If you get a penalty you don’t get any sprinkles! You don’t win either.

Other opinions may very obviously.

3. I’m fine with the currents system. But it just encourages “spray and pray” for the most part. Click to the impact and run 5 shots. Sorry! But it’s true!

Now I’m happy to let this thread die, Gentlemen!

Don't let it die, we're having good discussion. Plus the title stays up at the top of the page, "Barts beats everybody again". LOL

I had no idea that a lot of these issues that have been brought up were even issues so it's a good thing. But like Chris said on the DQ thing, you can keep shooting and try to for little group pot or your own thrills and even HG or LG accolades, if you didn't DQ in both. Only thing you're out of is 2 gun which you would still be out of it with a penalty.

OK Jason!!!!!

If you’re at Tommy’s this weekend I want to buy you dinner. I haven’t forgotten about those Rings. ;)

Fellow shooters and DQ proponents! Please name one shooting sport that Disqualifies you for making a bad shot!
Other than IBS 1000 and 600 yard bench!

Imagine Jeopardy thinking music playing in the background!

I'm trying to get him to come hang out with us Bart.

How about distance to nearest edge plus 1 moa? I could get behind something like that. I like what the nbrsa did with the DQ rule, but it's not probably punishing enough. Let's face it, the group can't of been smaller than just off the nearest edge.

Tom

Tom

Id say the shooter Should get 1 MOA PER shot plus the measurement of their group. That's not going be something you can come back from easily.

But I could support your idea. Anything is better than just throwing them out!

Bart

So if you get DQ'd you are not just DQ'd for that relay?? It is for the entire match? I am a newer shooter so I am not familiar with that rule...

Ok, you got me thinking

Just say you put all 5 shots on your neighbor's target, not in windy conditions
What is the procedure at that point?
That has nothing to do with be blown out, or bad relay, just a mental fart.

Just light gun or heavy gun whichever class you DQ in and then of course it takes you out of the 2 gun as well.

30 inch group plus the worst measurement of the 10 shots and zero score.

Oh I forgot! NO SPRINKLES!

Penalties are definitely more attractive to me as a newbie but I really do not have a dog in this debate beyond that.

That's just one of those things that never occurred to me to be an issue. That's why it's good to talk. I don't really have a dog in this anymore either I guess.

The problem with this is, you have a new guy shooting 10" groups on his target all day, he stays on his target.
Another guy is averaging 1.8" on 7 targets, shoots his neighbors target, and pulls ahead of the new guy in group agg, who does this benefit, not the guy who was on his game.

The 1.8 guy out shot him. I don't think their would be a lot of high fives between them. You're really having to stretch to get a good scenario.

What if I shot one of my targets 8 times and the other 5 times?

How about we agree to disagree
Leave it as is, enjoy the camaraderie , because in the end it really is not going to matter.

The only thing a DQ hurts is a big ego, imho

I am seeing alot of new interest in the long range game, some of the prs shooters, that are really into upping there reloading game are wanting to build bench rifles and play.

See ya this weekend safe travels
