Measure H20 Volume for Quickload

Am I doing this correctly? - I wanted to find a more precise H20 volume when using quickload.

Measuring 5.56 right now.

The default setting in QL is 28.49 grains.

I measured some fired brass. Sig and Lake City.

Average Sig empty (with fired primer) = 93.7
Average LC (with fired primer) 96.4

Sig + water filled to the neck and dry on the outside = 124.9
LC + water = 127.5

Which magically comes out to 31.2 grains of water for each.

Is that the number that quickload is looking for? 31.2?

I ask solely as a sanity check, because it works out to be like a 10k PSI difference. And yes, I understand QL is for estimates only blah blah blah.

If you filled the cases according to instructions, then it looks good to me. It has been my experience that my case volumes have measured 2+ grains larger than QL defaults.

you can ADD cases in ql ( there is a button at the top with a case in it)
i add for every lot i have
ql uses fired un sized vol,
i do not
i use the size i load.
( i belief ql is wrong in their assumption. it takes about
a bunch of pressure to expand a case, it takes much less to get
a bullet on its way. just me do as you please.)
always measure small cases, esp 223/5.56

Measure your projectiles as well! I have found huge descrepancies between listed bullet length and actual length! The more accurate info you have, the more precice ql’s calculations are.

Yes, that is the number QL is looking for. In my hands, the QL factory preset case volume is always much lower than my actual fired case volume, and yes, it does make a difference. So does actual bullet length, case trim length, COAL, etc. Any time you have loaded cartridge or rifle-specific values you have actually measured, inputting them into QL where appropriate is a good idea.
