Ohaus beam scale

What about Redding #2 master scale? Not any better than M5???

As I have posted on a related thread:

I use a tuned Redding. It is quite ugly and I couldn't sell it to anyone. I use the Redding as it is wonderfully sensitive. Reddings however have linearity issues. They tend to read heavy by about .1% per 100 grains past 150 grains. While not a concern for powder charges, Ohaus scales like the M5 and D5 rarely have such linearity issues when I am finished with them.

Like the Greek Goddess DIKE holding the Scales of Justice l trust a mechanical beam scale Always. l have a 10-10, 5-10, and an old Redding with the oil dampening reservoir. Also on my bench is a Frankfort Arsenal pocket electronic scale.. The one l use MOST. Nothing is faster than electronic scale for multiple repeat readings... After l load a box of ammo l weigh each round. lt would take forever with my 10-10 or 5-10. With my electronic pocket scale, just a couple minutes..

I have Scott Parker tuned scale and even if I can someday afford something with magnetic force restoration I'll still keep at least one of his scales. I've got check weights that I occasionally use to verify just for confidence but where it's at for reloading is repeatability and Scott's scales are repeatable. One thing about the electronic scales is some of them drift but all are dependent on power supply. Probably the best thing about the electronic scales are they are faster but I'm only shooting 1000-1500 rounds of precision rifle loads a year so it's not as important to be fast is it is accurate.

Just an update.I tried the "new" Ohaus 10 10 scales today.I would not have them on a bet. They are useless IMO.I would not have these except already had them ordered before this thread.Should have waited and got your opinions first.
My next will be Scott Parker tuned M5.
I will make someone a good deal on these. No ,I would not do that to anyone unless you're an enemy.
Thanks guy for all your help.
By the way,how do you get in touch with Scott? I have tried PM but no response.
Jim

I think he travels a lot for his job. Give it a little time. He should answer your pm.

Amazon probably has a contract with OHAUS to produce and sell the scales. It still contains the words "Manufactured by OHAUS Corporation". Ships and sold by Amazon.
Amazon deliberately opened itself up to direct sales from Chinese factories a few years ago. They are flooded with counterfeit goods, and Amazon has no way of telling real stuff from fake. In fact, they just dump it all together to make fulfillment easier. Apple, for example, who does not sell through amazon at all, bought a bunch of Apple branded chargers from amazon and inspected them. Something like 90% were fake, while the rest were legitimate products sold through grey market channels. Apparently Birkenstock sandles (also not sold on amazon) are a big one too. It’s gotten bad enough that I don’t buy anything of significance on amazon. You can’t trust it. I’m sure they’re working hard on fixing that but it’s a tough challenge.

Do you have a link to the one you bought, or one that is the same as what you have bought?

Danny, just go to Amazon and look up Ohaus 10 10. They look ok but when weighting ,it takes forever for the scale to balance out and they do not weigh properly.
Thanks

if you do a little tuning like change out the magnets, work on the pointer, adjust the pan seat wt they seem to work ok, my 5-10's work fast they stop on a hair pretty fast, I use a 140 gr bullet and a 10 gram lab wt I purchased to chk the scales, they have been spot on for 4 yrs now. I also use a magnifying glass when I want to get close wt charges, and I keep my scale covered and cleaned before each session

I also would like to hear from him. I sent him a set of scales to be reworked and he has not responded to any of my e-mails. That was the last of January and still nothing.

I just got mine from late December so you might be getting close. Hopefully! I couldn’t be happier with the scale.

As to the Redding. It IS sensitive. It IS made here. Personally, I only load .223 with a maximum of 23 or so grains. A .1% of a grain difference is 1/100th of a grain (unless my fifth grade decimal math has failed me) at above stated amount of 150 grains. I doubt if there is anything to worry about for my non-competition needs which are for 100 + 200 yards. The squirrel will still be headless and the paper will still have one slightly ragged hole for five shots.
