hazardous materials airborn particles from cleaning primer pockets?

so i was cleaning my pockets with that rcbs steel brush looking thing in my cordless drill, but i got to thinking about airborn lead and whatever else,,,

what do folks use to clean primer pockets?

does anyone take respitory precautions when cleaning primer pockets,

i also have a lyman tool that has like a flat bladed screwdriver looking thing.

If you reload your going to be around some not so great things... I don't , I just wash my hands real good when I am done... Unless you're in a well vented room or outside , some things are just going to be there... If I was running a reloading business were I was around a ton of this stuff everyday I might be more concerned...

Positive, and very predictable airflow.Shoot for 1-1 1/2 mph.Think full on paint spray booth.... meaning,if we can safely spray isocynates, uhhh... anything reloading or indoor shooting ranges are a walk in the park.Good luck with your project.

Simple fix for that. De-cap and resize. Put your cases in an ultra sonic cleaner, (can buy one on line for less than $200.00) add cleaning solution, and a few drop of dish washing detergent. Run through 3 20 minute cycles. [watch TV] . Case pockets come out like new + a lot of the junk in the case gets cleaned out. Drain and dump used solution.

Sounds like the Bird Flu scare. I'm 71 and have been loading for 40+ years. If there was a problem I'd have by now. Maybe I have it and don't know.

This is what I'm using... I like it, several rotational twists and the pocket is clean.

Hornady 041201 Primer Pocket Cleaner, Small
or Large.

the primer pocket cleaning tip screws into the handle.

if I were using the power screwdriver and was concerned about the airborn primer dust I would wear a Mask.

I was cleaning primer pockets before it became "fashionable". I began to start to taste the residue in my mouth. So I started wearing a good fitting respirator with the proper cartridges. I no longer could taste the residue.

But after loading shotshells for many years, and seeing the plume of lead dust come up when I refilled my shot tube, and after vibratory tumbling in the basement for many year, and ingesting lead shot from game, I decided to get my lead level tested. I fully expected it to be elevated. It was very low. I was surprised.

Now I deprime and wet tumble everything, so I know my exposure is very low. I shoot a lot, so I process a lot of brass. Do what makes sense for you.

Well, we apparently survived the toxic baby powder our moms used, asbestos dust from brake shoes, silica from masonry products,etc......why worry this late in the game? Too much worry can kill you.

Use Remington primers and the stuff falls out in larger chunks with a lot less work.

De-cap and immerse in water then use your brush as before.

No matter what you are doing with reloading or cleaning a bore or chamber or what not, you are breathing in and handling stuff you wouldn't want on or near a baby.

Take whatever precautions you wish without any assurances they will be sufficient.
